your thoughts on this desktop

I've been searching online and in stores for a desktop with an Intel Core i7 processor and Vista Home Premium 64-bit Ed with Service Pack 1 . They're very slow getting into the stores, but they're all over the internet. I'm considering an HP I just found this morning. I will be using it extensively for video editing. Both editing programs I use are compatible with 64-bit. Out of three reviews one is not good... Do you see any issues I should be concerned about? I'm going to call to get the specs on the power supply. I would prefer it didn't come with Microsoft Works or Norton, but that's not possible with HP. I've uninstalled Norton in the past, but I've never removed Works. Would removing Works be a problem? (I'll be installing Office 2003--it's compatible, also.)

I was seriously thinking about customizing a Cyberpower system; but when I called for help, the sales department is strictly for sales. They aren't able to offer recommendations or give advice to one's questions... That's why I'm looking at a ocnfigured machine.

The power supply is only 460W... Too little??? Salesman said there are two fans: one in the front and another on the side. My Dells have always run hot with weak power supplies. I don't know if that is why they run hot--just my thinking! :)

Works came off my HP Vista just like any other removal. No problems at all.

it truly is amazing how young they are learning to use this extremely valuable machine. I can only imagine where I would be if I had had the opportunity to have a computer at such a young age. How fortunate they are to have the world at their fingertips. Your grandson is a very lucky boy to have you around to get him his very own computer and he will love the apple, not as many infection worries there too, although more recently there have been some aimed at apple but not as many as for windows. I think that is one of the reasons so many of the small netbooks and the one pc per child versions have linux pre-installed on them, no infection worries and what a great head start to learn linux so young. Here I am in my gray hair days learning linux! It sure would have been easier when more of my brain cells were co-operating LOL but I figure I am better off exercising them than letting them laze around.

Ha! I feel just the opposite, carabubble. Hated the whole season but liked the finale. I was sad the mother had to die. For the story's purposes, it provided Ted and Robin the opportunity to finally be together - this is the first time in both their lives when it was right (presumably). I didn't particularly care for the Barney story, but I liked his response to his baby. Marshall and Lily were the rocks solid ones, which was expected. I was a bit miffed that the marriage that was built up all season was already over and done with, but that didn't surprise me, even though it felt like the whole season was a waste. Overall, I need to ruminate just a bit more.... The bottom line, though, is it was a fun show for 10 years, and the episodes were each enjoyable on their own merit, with the exception, at least for me, of this last season.

"Nobody looks at rugs." They do at my house. Maybe that's because I spend as much time choosing them as choosing art ;) And in looking at my rugs, just as in looking at my art, people see something of my history and who I am. The rugs say that I've spent time in the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent, that I like tribal art, and that I'm not afraid to hang rugs and "rug-like objects" on my walls as art as well as place them underfoot. The art says I've got eclectic taste, like different materials and media, and do not buy art as decor. Some of the first things I bought, over 40 years ago, have been in homes on four continents and there's always been a place for them because they're important to me. Same goes for the "accessories" (and I confess, I'm no minimalist!) I love the shapes and workmanship of a lot of Islamic things - trays, water jugs, even a chapati container. But I've also got a couple of beautiful bowls inlaid with mother of pearl from Fiji, some Greek ceramics, Murano glass, a framed piece of a Hindu temple door, and a Haida carving from my native BC. Essentially, these are the story of my life. None of my things were expensive or are particularly valuable - but they matter to me more than the most perfect Persian silk carpet or the most expensive oil painting because I can tell a story about each one of them.

@Sueb20, it's not gourmet or anything, in fact it is a chain though it does not feel like one to me. But what I like is they have calorie counts on everything and small portions. It's not like hard core "diet food" or "healthy" so anyone can enjoy a meal there but it makes it easier if you are trying to cut back. I give it an 8 maybe?

you can easily add fans either with a pci slot fan or by putting one in an empty bay slot. If the power supply turns out to seem weak that is an easily replaceable item. If that is the only concern and it has everything else you want then you are the only one that can make that decision.

I consider those type issues cosmetic sorta like buying a house and all it needs is new paint.

I like HP products have many of them and they have been quite decent. That system looks very nice.

On cyberpower did you go through the configurator to pick and choose how you would like your pc to be configured? Pretty much everything is able to be individually picked.

The power supply is from Delta Electronics of Taiwan. With only 4 USB ports on the rear and 1 on the front you may not have any concerns about power. Probably pay to ensure any external drive you might consider should have it's own power source.

Using the Newegg link below you can click on the photo of the case to enlarge it plus have the opportunity to see 12 view including the inside. Use the zoom tool on the side view and you can see the CPU fan blows front to back with a secondary fan almost behind it to remove the heat

Also the offer of a free update to Windows 7 is nice. Been using Windows 7 for a while now and even on my ancient P4 it does very well.

The i7 920 Nehalem CPU alone is listed at $288.99 at Newegg.

Notice the separate video card can support two monitors if you so choose and with 1 gig of video RAM it should be incredibly good.

Overall it looks a very nice machine but cramped inside if you need to work replacing anything. The $100 off is smoke and mirrors, everybody seems to have it at $1,199.99

Yes, Raven, I used the configurator but was uncertain about a few choices. I was disappointed that the salesman was not able to help me.

I appreciated the link to Newegg, Owbist. It's nice to know I can use 2 monitors. The photos of the case are helpful. It's not any larger than my Dell 4700! I didn't realize how crowded it would be inside...

Each of my hard drive external enclosures has its own power source. So you think the power supply is sufficient to handle the demands of video editing programs???

I like a lot about the machine and am very happy that it offers a free upgrade to Windows 7.

It's now out of stock on HP's site... HP has free shipping and special deals on a new printer and monitor when you buy a new pc.

I was able to customize an Elite e9150t with nearly the same specs.
