how do I organize music on Windows Media Player & other questions

Hello there,

Just bought a wonderful Gateway Laptop with Vista Home Premium and of course Windows Media Player..I am still quite a novice though when it comes to the Media player.

I have "ripped" quite a few music cds from cd to the media player but am having trouble organizing my music and I have several questions.

(1) Each cd is represented by a gray cd cover icon that says "PASTE ALBUM ART" here and for the life of me, I just cannot find out how to paste onto the album art.

(2) Right now I have 6 separate cds in my media player library showing up in my "library"...I would -- for the sake of simplicity -- like to put all of these into one "folder" so when I burn these back to another cd I just have to do one click and not 6 different clicks. How do I do that ?

(3) General question regarding term identification. What is the difference between (A) "Rip" and (B) "Burn"

To paste Album Art, right click the grey icon, a dropdown will have the selection "Paste Album Art"
*note, you'll have to have the album art or photo to be on your clipboard to have "paste album art" to show. Which means you'll have to copy the album art photo from somewhere. In my music folder there is some album art, but not all songs come with the album art photo in the song tag.

Rip means that it will save the burn info in C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\My Music, or the folder of your choice. Rip will also burn if there is a cd inserted.

Burn means it will burn straight away with a cd inserted, basically the same thing except Rip saves the info to a folder, possibly to burn at another time.

There is a way to organize all your music by genre, year, rating, artist, ect.
I used to have the library organized on the older WMP9 & 10, but don't have the time now to figure it out.
I just play the songs and they are saved in the library in alphabetical order.

What operating system are you using? If your missing that "About" feature, seems like something is wrong, open and close windows media player, reboot the computer, see if you can get that feature back. Windows Media Player 12 comes as part of Windows 7. "In Step 4, you have choice to choose selected file type to play as default with Windows Media Player. You need to click on "Choose defaults for this program" and then select file types that you want to associate with Windows Media Player." See link below,for more on above. Use your head with this - a PC isn't a CD player, it's even better. Put any and all your CDs into the PC just once, rip them (transcribe the music files into computer files), and then play them an infinite number of times using the sound files stored on your hard drive. Either WMP or Itunes will do the rip. If the CD can be read from one PC and not the other, rip the CD on the working PC and then move the files to the other. Or, rip all the working files on the "bad" PC, and use the working PC to rip and transfer just the one non-working file. A concept that's hard for some to grasp - if you're trying to do something and it doesn't work, it's unlikely the solution is to do the same thing over and over again. Instead, try something different.
