Tile backsplash for vanity and bathtub

We are replacing a cultured marble vanity and backsplash in our master bath with a granite slab. I was hoping to design a tile backsplash for the vanity that would continue along the wall around the tub and become the top of the tiled tub surround. If it helps, the (84") vanity and the short end of the tub (52") are both on the north wall with the vanity & tub creating an el in the bathroom.

However, my tile guy and the sales gal at the granite company both said that is only done in kitchens not bathrooms. The tile guy said he is afraid my bathroom will look too commercial if I don't use the matching granite backsplash. Do any of you have pictures that I can show him. Do you have any ideas of how I can take a five or six inch backsplash design and tie it into a tub surround? It seems like it would create a lovely border along the top and I don't understand why that won't look good.

Thanks - Sue
