You need to express your concerns with your builder.
Sounds like he may offer to pay an extra months rent for you.

It sounds like it may be possible but would have to be scheduled very tightly by your builder. The hardwoods could take up to a week to get down if they are unfinished; you didn't indicate finished or unfinished. The plumber doing water heaters, fixtures and the tub work would take at least half a day maybe more. Obviously, the outside work could take place simultaneously with the interior work or could wait until you move in if not required for your CO. Talk with your builder and see what you can work out.

I was shocked at how much happened the last two weeks. I had a list a mile long too of things that needed to be done. Somehow, someway it did happen. The main problem I see for you is that you still need hardwood and concrete. Those are two items (especially hardwood) that requires people to stay away for days.

We were banned from our house while the hardwood was going on. Our builder didn't even want the door opened and had keep out signs on every single door. I think it was 5-6 days that the house was in lock down.

I would be doubtful that it would be accomplished in 14 days. There are so many different trades represented by the list above that I think it would be a true scheduling snafu. Have you spoken with your builder, or in your case-your builder's agent, this week? It doesn't matter what they've said all along...it only matters what they say now. What are you willing to not have finished before you move in to make that deadline? If I were operating under a timecrunch, I'd give up the driveway and landscaping (if you can get a CO) and have that completed after move-in.

Hopefully, your builder is more organized and speedy than mine, but my builder told me yesterday that we will close the third week in September and we have the following tasks remaining (which seem fewer than yours):
- Interior paint;
- tile one shower and kitchen and laundry backsplashes;
- install countertops;
- finish hardwoods;
- install carpet in two bedrooms;
- install lighting fixtures;
- install plumbing fixtures;
- install appliances;
- landscaping.

All of our exterior painting, concrete work, and HVAC is completed (which remain on your list). My builder expects our remaining tasks to take another 6 weeks to complete. But, our builder moves very slowly.

I certainly hope your's moves as quickly as you desire.

It is possible, but quite unlikely.

It would be wise to have contingency plans in place.

I'm figuring about two weeks before my house can meet my lender's requirement for converting my construction loan into a perm. Finals will be done by next week, and all that's left right now is the photo voltaic system (the wiring is in, it's the panel installation), touch up painting, and the last light fixtures are going in today. Oh, and the reefer needs to go in, but it isn't getting here until early next week, but all the other appliances are in.

I agree with the others who suggest you have a chat with your contractor. But I'd also be careful about moving in before everything is done, there are too many postings about contractors who never come back.

I just went back and read the Original Post. The only thing bad that happens if you're not finished by then is you have to pay another month's rent????

I can understand that money is tight, but that hardly sounds like a disaster in the making.

I'm in the same situation. But as a builder. Clients are moving into 3,100+sf. next Thursday. Since the beginning of the month we will have: painted, installed hardwood, electrical finish (plugs, receptacles, pots and lights), tile, 1/3rd of finish trim, driveway, sod, plumbing finish, granite counters, oak railings and pickets, security finish. Only major thing missing will be the garage door--as the company contracted with in April didn't make the door.

OTOH, I don't know your builder.

Well, our builder told us yesterday that we'll definitely be done & closed by the end of the month...... :) I'll let you know! We did get one more thing done - the countertops went in yest.!
