What the heck is 'Snap Trap'?

For awhile now, we've been getting something called, 'snap trap' that 'opens' on our computer (Windows XP); but it doesn't really 'open' - it sits on the task bar.

But, when we click on it, it doesn't have the option to open, so we close it.

I googled 'snap trap' and it has something to do with trapping rodents. : O So, I don't 'get it' - it doesn't seem to be an advertisement, since it doesn't open. Has anyone else had this problem? Plus, it was on the computer this morning right after we turned it on - we hadn't even gotten onto the internet yet. I sort of wonder if it isn't some sort of spy ware type of thing? *all suspicious* Does anyone know?

Snap Trap via Yahoo search will find that it might be a trap to catch a Snapalope. Suggest you do a file search of snap trap to see what else you can find on your computer.

There is also an online game called Snap Trap. Perhaps you either have children or some visited and were allowed on the computer?

Nymphs (youngsters) of buffalo treehoppers. The adults look like green thorns you might find on a rose bush. Direct hits of insecticidal soap will kill the larvae when repeated as needed. OK, I googled this hammerhead worm. Here's what it said. I copied it from the website I went to. This "worm" is usually only seen during very high humidity situations, such as a lot of rain. They are usually found in cool, dark, moist areas. They eat earth worms, slugs, snails, insect larvae, and are even cannibalistic. They usually move and feed at night. They can survive desiccation only if water loss does not exceed 45 percent of their body weight. They have been found commonly in American greenhouses since 1901. Their mouth, which also serves as an anus, is present near mid-body on the ventral surface. Colors of Florida species range from greenish-grey to brown with dark narrow stripes on the dorsal side. Sometimes they are yellow or blue in other areas of the country. I just had to post this because I could not get over the fact that the mouth doubles as an anus. OK this means that he pukes out his poop!!! That is just gross!!!!

Unless I am reading something incorrectly this is a trick question and everyone is trying to make it far too complex. Papercrane said she took off the trap to clean it and discovered the nuts were deteriorating beyond use. She then took the trap to a local hardware store and the pet monkey there identified it as ABS, then went on to say they don't stock ABS. From that statement I can conclude a number of facts. 1.Papercrane loosened a nut and removed the trap, which she took to the store. Obviously the trap was not glued on or she would not have been able to remove it simply by removing a nut. From this we can conclude that even though her house may have ABS pipe in the DWV system, nonetheless, there is a trap adapter on the end of the ABS and this is a slip type trap. 2. The threads on the trap adapter are standard IPS threads therefore any slip joint compression nut will fit, whether its ABS, PVC, Polypropylene or chrome plated brass. If you want to maintain the black appearance they make both ABS and polypropylene nuts in black. 3.Based on his snotty attitude that clerk can rest assured I would cross his establishment off my list of potential materials sources in future as well. She then called a plumbing supply house and someone there said they not only don't stock the item, it is no longer manufactured then he offered to come out and and glue a PVC trap on. First of all, just because a supplier does not carry an item, that does not mean that it is no longer made and secondly, not only does she not need a glue on trap, the code expressly prohibits gluing PVC to ABS. (From this we can conclude that papercrane lives in a an area with a very good job market, even the village idiot can hold a descent job).

Thanks to you both. OK I did a search for 'Snap Trap' in my files, and this came up: "C:\Windows\twain_32\USB2.0Camera. Hmm... we installed a web cam a few months ago for Skype purposes. So, is it harmless then?

And, no, owbist, there haven't been any children on our computer. But, we had a teenager hanging around the front of our house occasionally (even sitting in our ditch), and we caught on that he was using our wireless connection. That couldn't have anything to do with it, can it?

oh my that is NOT GOOD if anyone can access your wireless they are in your bizness! Get that wireless secured asap if you have not done so already. Lets just hope he was not up to nefarious conduct while in your network. I think I would be changing my passwords as soon as the network is locked down. and be sure you check your accounts list in control panel to see if they added themselves a new account, if you find anything there other than yours eliminate them.

Oh no - I didn't mean that my wireless isn't secured - I have it WPA2 secured... Goes to show how much I know about neighbours using your connection, though... that's what I thought he was doing. I really wasn't sure whether he could actually get into our computers - I'm still not sure. One time another kid showed up, and obviously asked him what he was doing, and the kid with the handheld computer device (not sure what it was exactly) pointed to my house. I just shut off the router whenever he showed up. I will check my account list, though, just in case.

OK, I just found 'Manage Accounts' (would that be it?); and under that I have 'Owner', and there is 'Guest' afterwhich it says 'Guest Account is off'. Should 'Guest' be there? I've never been 'in' this part of my control panel, so I don't know if 'Guest' has always been there.

there is usually one guest but you can remove it if you choose to then anytime you need to create one you just add one.
It definitely sounds like he was riding on your wireless, I would go out there and ask him what the heck he is doing since he is on your property anyway.
