Had it for a few years and no biggie problems...minor stuff that was sorted out with Google earth updated versions along the way..great program

Jean these days I ask people why they want to install that large program when we now have the beauty of Google maps. With Google maps you can type and address or location and be taken there. Then you can drag the little man off the top of the zoom control, drop him in the street and walk up and down that road seeing either side of the road.

Try it you may feel it addresses your needs. Hopefully others will come by and enlighten us of the benefits of installing Google Earth, I took it off years ago.

What I am looking for is up to date satellite views. Google maps seem to all be old views. Does Google Earth show up to date views?

Owbist, were there any issues with the uninstall?
I'm very cautious about installing programs on my computer.

Well, they are not too recent. I just went to my own house. We have lived in this house 2+ yrs. Nothing around it, that was ours. I then went to our last house. Saw both my old car and our truck. Then went to Grandaughter's apartment complex. She has lived there 2+ yrs. Saw my old car (took print screen of it) parked across street from her apartment. I havent owned the car for 2 yrs, this month. So guessing that almost everything is a bit over 2 yrs old on there.

Install it and enjoy it. Your computer has twice the RAM of mine and I have an older operating system. Google Earth loads quickly and works just fine for me. I've uninstalled it once when there was a problem with launching it: it removed easily and was reinstalled without a hitch. When you install it, just pay attention as the first screens come up...if I recall correctly, it will automatically also install the Google Chrome browser unless you uncheck a box.

I do as Owbist mentioned, I use google maps and the street view options. I think the results of both are likely about the same age.

for a different view and possibly more recent try the one by microsoft, for me it shows very different views than what I see on google. Was called microsoft virtual earth now called bing maps, you can just google that.
When searching for homes to buy I used all of them.

you should also take a look at flash earth it lets you switch between several of them including google earth and microsoft virtual earth

Flashearth seems to be a little more updated. When looking at my house I had the roof replaced about 5 years ago... with Google Maps the roof vents are still visible... with flashearth the vents are gone as I had changed to a ridge vent.

Thank you all for you responses, and bless you poohbear, I couldn't remember flashearth and had lost my bookmark. That is the one I really like and it is very up to date about 2 years.

I down loaded Google Earth and here it has a picture of me & a guy I was telking with standing beside my truck.Probably five yrs ago.The street view is more up to date.

I think it varies with where you live as far as how current the photos are. The Google Earth photo of my house (in a major metropolitan area) is from last summer, whereas the FlashEarth one looks quite a bit older than that. The main problem I have with FlashEarth is that I've found its image resolution to generally not be as good as Google Earth, and the colors are muddier.
