I live on a Christian University campus. The school has wireless computers & one of my friends here says he gets it on his laptop. Do U think I could also get it on my desktop computer? It would be free if I could or am I better off staying with Charter?

Here is the info on my computer:

Athlon 64 processor 3500+

2.21GHz 960MB of ram

Physical address extention Acer

300 GB harddrive

I need to take my computer in soon for check up before renewing my warranty..(they will fix it if anything is wrong free.) Is there anything I need to upgrade while it is there.They renew my warranty for $39 a year & it covers everything but a virus.

I'm sure the University would give me permission to use it but I'm probably over 300 feet away from the dorm. My friend is directly across the St. I am across the st & down a short way. He can get it in the lobby & I am directly over the lobby. Again the whole front of the lobby is glass if that makes a difference. The walls here are cinder block with brick over that. Most of the front of the apts are windows 1/2 the way down.
I can now see why he has such heavy security on his laptop
too. That's the part that scares me. I think it's best I just forget it. I believe I would be asking for trouble.

For Sonos, my Understanding is you will need a soundbar to connect to the TV itself - probably the beam in your case - then you can connect any number of Sonos 1’s (or whatever they call their cheapest speaker nowadays) to that system, which would be perfect to add to a kitchen. However, this whole set up is $$$ since you need the soundbar for the TV. The individual small speakers cannot directly communicate with the TV - only the soundbar, which in turn is connected to the TV. That said, I have $$$$$ worth of Sonos in my own home and am happy with it. :)

Looking for recommendation for wireless greenhouse thermometer

I'm looking for a recommendation on a reasonably priced, wireless thermometer for my greenhouse. I want a 2-channel thermometer that can monitor the temperature in the greenhouse and also has a waterproof probe connected to it that I can stick in my bottom-heated seed starting trays to monitor soil temperature. The receiver will be in my house and needs to be able to pick up the signal from the greenhouse about 75 feet away. I have been using a (now-discontinued) LaCrosse technology thermometer for years that works exactly like this, but the thermometer transmitting unit has died and I am having trouble finding a good replacement.

Can't see your drawing, out of focus. But, I would put in several hard-wired Ethernet points and one central WiFi router. You can always add more using one or more of the Ethernet ports.

You said you wanted a wireless solution. The Lutron solution (first comment) links a wireless, ceiling sensor with a wall dimmer to which you'd wire your lights. The GE CYNC solution (above) links a wireless sensor with an outlet switch* into which you'd plug your lights. sugar_fl contact the university they all have very nice instructions on how to access and use their provided wireless services, most have websites dedicated to instruct how to do that. The easiest method would be to use a secure usb wireless connection like this

Wireless communications are protected by up to 128-bit WEP or WPA encryption
that means you can have secure transmission.
That one is especially nice because it has a network finder built in, you can scan for available wireless connectivity before turning on your computer. If the scanner does find a network, just plug it into your PC and get connected. Makes it very easy to see if you are in a wireless spot.

I would think at that distance even though a signal was found, it would be very weak
