Do you measure all framing to make sure correct?

We noticed the framing is off in a room..it's larger by about two inches and can't figure out where exactly the inches came from. It seems they took it from an adjoining closet and bathroom by making the wall that stands behind the open bedroom wall wider. Is this normal to find rooms off??

The foundation was exact to the inch, so not sure what happened.

Do you measure everything to make sure nothing is off?

Two inches bigger sound like they forgot a 2x6 plumbing wall and framed it with 2x4 by mistake.

If they missed a wet wall the plumber will tear the 2x4 wall to shreds running waste lines.

There is not much left of as 2x4 stud after a 1.5 inch waste line is run through it, let alone a 3 or 4 inch toilet drain.

I use 511 regularly, where I work we provide machinery that focuses on cleaning grains, plastic extrusions, reclaimed sheet rock, reclaimed glass etc. we separate unwanted fines, or unwanted particle sizes from many various products via screening, air aspiration as well as other methods. This brings me to my question about gritty mix, I just happened upon some poly beads about 3/16 diameter, could this be used as the grit fraction in gritty mix? What I mean by grit is the the granite, or the inert fraction of the mix, the beads seem to be nearly inert, I process all my pine bark through a machine called a reel eliminator, it has various sizes of screens so I can dictate what particle size I want by varying the screen size, I always look for the bags of pine bark mulch that looks some what composted, and separate that into the fines I want, typical what ever will go through a 3/8 screen. I processed 4ea. 2.5 cubic bags in 10 minutes last week, sure makes it easy compared to my screens at home. I am wanting to make up some gritty mix primarily for some citrus trees in my greenhouse, these polystyrene beads have become plentiful and don't weigh very much. You guys are the experts and would love to hear your opinions, Thanks

Someone once mentioned putting together a calendar using their pictures and some other peoples that they saw on this forum. I was just thinking, perhaps we could "get together" and put together something that we could sell and donate the proceeds to an ecological group or something similiar. I have lots of pictures that are just okay to use like for this forum but I do have a handful that I am really proud of. I was also thinking about how you can have them put on canvas and stretched so that you can use them as art in your home. I have looked on line and it isn't cheap but when you smile everytime you see one of these winged creatures, why not enjoy it all the time.

It appears to be a carpenter's mistake since the intention of the design is clearly stated on the drawings. Perhaps the windows were installed before the door arrived. IMHO there is no reason to replace anything other than the narrow "picture frame" molding; it's really out of place here. Option A (cheapest) Raise the door head trim and find a way to fill the resulting gap. I would also fill the gap between the door and window jamb trims because these narrow strips of wall look amateurish to me. Option B (best) Use 3/8" or 1/2" flat trim that spans from opening to opening, then add a decorative band molding around the outer perimeter of the entire assembly. The flat part of the trim would be a bit larger at the door head but it would look fine since it's at a door not a window. If the carpenter is good he could add a cove, bevel or bead at the inner edges. That is the way triple openings have been detailed for hundreds of years so I'm surprised the architects or the builder didn't suggest it.

Lots of things found on the produce clearance rack can also be dehydrated. I especially like to get sweet bell peppers (all colors) and dehydrate them. Good fruit can easily be made into fruit leather. Dehydrated mushrooms are also a useful ingredient in the kitchen. I just avoid anything that has mold growing on it. Not only can you get perfectly good food from the clearance rack and dehydrate it, instead of wasting a lot of produce in your refrigerator, get out the dehydrator and dry it. You can make up your own packets of soup mix from your dehydrated "goodies". Cream of Mushroom Soup Mix 1 c. (250 ml) dried mushrooms 1/2 t. (2 ml) dried onions 1/2 t. (2 ml) grated dried lemon rind 3 T. (45 ml) all-purpose flour 1 t. (5 ml) salt 1/8 t. pepper (1/2 ml) 1 c. (250 ml) dry milk powder Combine all ingredients and store in a tightly sealed container. To use: add to 1-1/2 quarts (1-1/2 litres) boiling water. Cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened. Cover and cook over very low heat for 20-30 minutes. Serves 4-6. Thanks for the expert insight..they actually did do a 2x4 wall instead of a 2x6. The architect has a 2x4 on that wall even though there is a sink on that side. Toilet is on another wall. Now I know what to discuss with builder tomorrow. Thanks for helping!

I also would take a long 2 by 4 and hold it horizontally at waist level and see if the walls were straight. My nightmare framing fix was 6 weeks-all the walls were wavy. Also, check above and below on each wall. Ceilings too! Better to have them fix them now if off-My drywaller found all mine, said my walls would be terribly crooked and wavy if not corrected.

I checked everything! I also recommend you check all of the window locations and header heights. If something is off now is the time to know.

Seconded.

Triple check your egress windows against code. Somehow, everyone from the architect to the builder missed an egress window being one inch too high at the bottom. The building inspector didn't miss it at final time.

We got it waived, but it could have been a major issue.

I checked everything! Our @#$%&* framer made LOTS of mistakes. Put a wall where the stairs were to begin, another wall where a door was to be, cut the stair stringer incorrectly, centered two different doors on walls where I didn't want them centered and the plans didn't show them centered, etc., etc., etc. Lost his set of plans, then after borrowing mine, left them blowing around the inside of the rough-framed house shell.

We were owner-builders, and did ICF walls--concrete--can't be changed once they're poured. My DH and another guy stacked the ICFs. DH is usually meticulous, so I didn't check him. Big mistake! Also, when we got the final set of drawings back, unbeknownst to me, the designer had made a last minute adjustment to the window height to "accommodate" the ICF structure (unnecessary). Between him and DH, all of the windows were dropped 5". Grr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!!!!!
