May I see your beadboard bathrooms, Please++

trying to get a plan in place. I really want beadboard. Should I get white vanity with dark counters and dark floor?

should I do a dark vanity, white counters and white floors.

I am redoing our shower/bathtub area and would like a black border.

Hi,

I just recently finished our bathroom, after much reading all the advice in this forum. We went with beadboard, white vanity, dark counter, and a medium floor. I think it came out pretty well.

mdva, that shade on the bottom half of the window is a clever way to still get light in when you want it! i've been struggling with our own window issues :D

I think tile or beadboard will work for your wall, really depends on your preference. I don't think it will the horizontal of subway pattern will clash with vertical of beadboard. Here are a few photos from our bathroom, which has subway tile in the shower and also beadboard for the walls. In our case there is a mirror above the beadboard and paint above that. We used redwood strips (around 4-5 inch widths)that fit together. Contractor felt that this would work better for a bathroom - no chance of warping. This may be overly cautious but it has worked fine for us. However it was a bit involved - priming for a few coats and then regular paint (around the sides, too), plus white caulk between strips. Wow! Found this discussion a year after it was going on and it was very helpful! We're remodeling our kitchen now, it is small (8 X 10), I'm getting new cabs in "cinnamon spice", and a granite counter top that is a speckling of browns, tans, gold-ish colors with black specks (I have no idea what the call it). I have an exposed cement :( chimney stack that we have decided to tile over with sheets of 2 X 2 tumbled white/off white marble. I was really not sure on back splash and we were thinking tile - but I thought of bead board last night and think it will go really well if painted the "off white/pumpkin" Laura Ashley color I found.

I can see a few options, the first two I consider more viable and the second two I'm not so big on: a) Use the white you're putting on the trim on the other side of the doorway for this room's trim and beadboard. Unless the undertones clash, white beadboard will not look odd if it's also on the trim, especially if fixtures such as tub, sinks, and toilet are also white. You don't say if they are or not. FWIW, the bath in my previous house combined almond tile with bright-white fixtures (and a little bit of white trim tile) and it looked very sharp if I say so myself. :-) (Trim and beadboard were stained oak.) b) Paint trim and beadboard SW Navajo White - this is the lightest shade on the Ivoire strip - or even cut that half and half with white so that it is still registering as "white" but not stark white. This is probably the approach I would take, especially if your fixtures are not white. You do NOT have to paint both sides of a door and its trim the same color (especially if you're one of those people who prefers to keep the bathroom door closed all the time) - in my previous house, the hallway trim was white but the MBR trim was stained oak. Worked just fine even though we left the MBR door open most of the time. c) Paint trim AND beadboard Ivoire, but your vanity will fade off into the background. This one strikes me as a little blah, personally, since the floor tile is also very similar in tone to the Ivoire and you'd end up with a "sea of beige" with a little green. Especially if your fixtures are also almond/beige/etc. - yikes! If you go that route, accessorize heavily with things that are NOT beige and that do have some contrast (darker shades of the green, for example) and get some interesting hardware for the vanity to wake it back up some. d) Treat the beadboard simply as a textural addition to the wall rather than a trim element and paint it the green, and paint the trim the color of the hallway trim (assuming those undertones don't clash, as I said). It depends on whether you think of the beadboard wainscot as wall or trim - whether they are beadboard, board-and-batten, or raised-panel, I think of wainscots as trimwork rather than wall so this approach isn't to my own taste, but others like it.

... and don't forget fancy! lol I agree about the blue. I went to Anthropologie today to look at some of those little accessories (jars, sugar bowl, etc) in yellow and aqua and brought the blue bird fabric. Most of them worked well but some of them were too green. It's a pretty blue. I don't think I'll do any other fabrics with turquoise- just if I find a good blue like the birds. It's sooo cute. I love it! My mom loves it too and agrees these work better than the original yellow/black/grey ones. Other ones I showed her she said were too french/formal. She has a good eye for decorating : ) The little bird fabric might be busy for the 6' window but that's why I thought maybe for the lights and then white with a bit of yellow (maybe the pom poms) for the window. I get the dandelions tomorrow (fabric) in the turquoise and girly blue. I think the print is too large though compared to those cute little birds. Maybe in the DR though if I do pillows. We'll see! I liked the tile even more today. They gave me 4 to take home woo-hoo!

This isn't my bathroom, but it is my absolute favorite with beadboard, and the one we're going to model our master bath on if I can convince my dh:

It's hard to tell because it's so small but they used a medium floor (travertine), a dark vanity, and a medium granite, also a soft tan on the walls. If you go to the rate my space website, I think it's actually roomzaar.com, and do a search for beadboard in bathrooms you'll find a lot of different combinations.

mailynn, you can't go wrong with any of your combos.
I just finished one small bath, doing one larger. White subway tile in shower. White toilet, sinks, cabinets, b&w tile floor, chrome faucets.
Used AZEK beadboard (not wood) on other walls 'cause it will never warp, split, swell. And you can paint it.
Color comes in painted walls and other decor. I've read about spotting problems when using dark countertops. Guess it all depends on who's using the bath! Good luck!

Thanks. The shower surround is Swanstone. I definitely like how it looks and it is easy to clean. But, installation was harder than I expected. Lots of careful bracing was required while the adhesive dried. But, that is a one-time issue. Hopefully it will last for years and years.

perfect! just what I was trying to achieve,

What is the countertop material? is the flooring tile? I want to avoid a ceramic tile if possible due to a messy husband and grout stains? I was looking at sheet vinyl. Lastly, the color of the paint on walls. I really want to use a toile type shower curtain and window treatment.

Thanks for posting the pics. i am so hard at visualizing.

Hi,

Our counter top is a granite call Verde Butterfly. The flooring is tile, with a deep grey grout to hide those grout stains. The paint is a color called Squirrel. It is a grey with hints of green & brown. Sounds terrible, but looks a lot nicer in real life than it does in the photos.

The beadboard is 3/4" tongue & groove boards. Each was about 7 inches wide with a groove in the middle and a half groove at each end. It went together really easily, but painting took a while.
