Outlook Express Sending Problem

I am using XP......with Outlook Express as my email platform. Everything (that I know of) is working okay execpt my ability to send emails. I can receive emails just fine. My internet connection seems good. What could cause me to have trouble sending?

Here are the symptoms. When I click send.....the email seems to go to the Outbox....and doesn't seem to leave. I get an error message "Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks". Some way....my message is actually being sent. Unbeknowst to me...when it is sitting in the Outbox....and I click on "send/receive"...it is sent again. Before I discovered this....I sent some stuff out five our six times.

One other thing odd.....is that when I click on "Local Folders"....my Sent Box appears to be empty. I know it should have a bunch of sent emails in that box, but nothing is showing up there.

Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do? Could a setting be off? Do I need to re-install IE? Any suggestions or help with be greatly appreciated.

One other thing....after discovering this problem, I did a System Restore to a time I know everything was working okay.

I just discovered one other thing. If I leave the sent email in the "Outbox".....it will send that email every five minutes (I have my setting set to check for emails every five minutes). I just sent something out about six times.....grrrrr.

Take a moment and disable your anti-virus. Then send yourself a test email with a small amount of text content. Maybe a small paragraph or so. Any change. Following the test, please remember to enable your AV. DA

I had multiple phone/comp. problems untill the man replaced the line TO THE HOUSE. Lost OE completely and was irked! I kept restoring system and it came back WITH O.E. Of course , you have to do SOME updating SOMETIMES after a restore. That was the only fix this old man knew to do and wasn't sure that it would cure my ills, but it did. I've used O.E. for so long that I just hate to TRY and go to another e mail program.

I have never heard of an ISP that told you what to use as your email address. Are you talking about your ISP when you say your provider or something else? When I set up our comcast I set up an email address similar to what you are saying with some initals and part of the name. I never use it but set it up just in case I should need one and to get any correspondence from comcast should they email me. I later decided to tie that email account to my ebay account and ebay came back and said that email address was already in use by someone. HUMMM well how can that be? So I created a different one at comcast and used it. Fast forward to last week when just for the heck of it I decided to go check on those comcast addys to see if there was any mail. Well that first one had a ton of spam in it and several emails from someone with the same initals/name and it looks like he also has that same email address. It has not been an issue for me since I just do not use that address but I was able to open all those emails of his and they were business related and some were legal. I am sure he would not be happy about that I know I would not be happy. I have no idea how comcast let that happen, each email address should be unique and never be allowed once someone has locked it in. the other 2nd comcast one I set up and ended up tieing to my ebay had zero spam and only email from ebay in it. very weird and sounds like maybe something very similar is happening in your case. If so the ISP should be able to check those 2 accounts and see why exactly that is happening. Definitely check your full headers and get all the routing info and let them have that info so they can sort it out. you may have to ask how to show full headers each email client is different, I have not used outlook express in ages.

I'll take a guess just for fun.... Click Tools > Options > Connection > Setup (Starts the Wizard) > Next. This brings up a choice of 4 options. The one chosen should be 'Connect to the Internet' If not then choose it and complete the wizard routine.

Owbist.....I am now deleting my Temporary Internet Files. Can this step take a long time? As far as I know, this is the first time this has ever been done on this computer. After about five minutes....I stopped this step....and thought I would ask you if it is common for deleting temporary files to take a long time. Should I just let it run until the operation is over?

Yes definitely allow the process to finish. Sometimes these things can take seemingly forever. Start it and walk away for awhile.

As you have not done this for a while perhaps you have not cleared out other areas as well. Try Ccleaner, linked below, this is a great program and free too. Install and run at default settings and you will come to no harm. (Watch during the starting of the install and remove the check mark for the Yahoo toolbar unless you want the tool bar of course.) Once it is complete you shoulds consider doing a defrag. To do so click start, click Accessories, click System tools, click defrag and set it to run. This too may well take quite a time to finish but never fear.

Owbist, I think you just fixed my problem. After becoming stuck on the deleting of the temporary files.....I skipped over a couple of steps in the repair kit. I read the part which about when suddenly messages that you sent are no longer being sent to the "Sent Folder". That is exactly what is happening here. The first step to try....was to compact all folders. That fixed my problem! I am no longer sending multiple emails. Sent emails are going to the Sent Folder. Wow.....this is great !! Do you think I should go back and complete the removing of the temporary files even though it seems my problem is solved?

Owbist....I cannot thank you enough. This is the best computer help website on the internet. The Computer Help Forum has gotten me out of many jams. I thank everyone who comes to this forum.....and special thanks to all who provide suggestions and solutions.

I agree the CCleaner is a great software. It lets you save certain cookies so you don't have to log in all the time.
