Sink question - single sink? Double?
Comments (34)Hi Melissa, I'm planning to get the Kohler SmartDivide with a 60/40 because to me it is the best of both worlds. The divider in the center of it is much lower than standard. So if you put a large skillet in it, the handle can easily lay over the divider. Typically as I prepare dinner, I'm throwing salad fixings in the small, disposal side, and stacking and/or rinsing dishes etc. in the large side. During cleanup, we repeat the process, so I just don't know how we'd do this with a single bowl. If you do a search on here, you'll see a few people have this sink. The link I've attached shows a somewhat odd-shaped sink, but it comes in the standard 33" rectangular 60/40 as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Kohler Smart Divide Sink...See MorePOLL: Who has gone from large single sink BACK to double sink?
Comments (59)I am always standing at my 33" single sink and saying how much I love my kitchen. Such a simple thing that makes such a big difference. Even DH likes it because we can both stand at it and do two different things at the same time. As far as cleaning the stainless grid, I fill the sink until it is completely immersed in hot water and add a splash of chlorine bleach, let it sit for 10 minuets. Then I rinse. Presto, clean grid....See MoreChanging from single sink to double sinks
Comments (5)Chellefnp, thanks for a new perspective. It was my kids' bathroom but they've grown up and moved out. Now it is for company or overnight guests. If I sold the house to someone with kids, that would be their bathroom. I always thought it would be a good selling point to have to sinks in there, but maybe not necessarily so. It would definitely be cheaper to go with one sink since that's how it is currently plumbed. Thanks!...See MoreSingle sink in master bath?
Comments (43)People buy space. A single sink delivers greater storage and counter space most want. I think this thought is becoming more and more popular now. The duplicate sink thing became common in the 80s-90s when McMansions started popping up everywhere ... but realistic thought /function over looks seems to be seeping back into building. Our master has only had one sink. However the main bath had two. Even raising kids I can't recall a single time when both sinks were in use at the same time. I learned to detest that extra sink every time I had to clean the useless thing. We're the same -- one in the master, two in the hall bath -- and I hate my girls' vanity and -- to use your words -- that useless sink. The worst: One of the faucets broke and needed replacement. Because I wanted them to match, I had to buy two faucets /pay for two installations. And the store only had one of the faucet I actually wanted, so I was forced to buy two higher-priced faucets. Thing is, because we have a ridiculous 14' vanity, we really have to stick we duplicate sinks -- plus the vanity is in excellent condition, and I can't see paying to replace it. My girls loved all those drawers while they were growing up, but they never used the extraneous sink....See Moreladycfp
