How to make a shortcut .....

O.K. Windows did a number on my pc and got rid of my shortcut symbols down at the bottom. Instead of going to "programs" and choosing what I need, would like to have the shortcut again to Microsoft Word down in the bar next to "start" for easy access.

Only took 3 hrs. on phone long distance with my son yesterday to get pc back in working order. Grrrr.....don't think Windows should be allowed to mess things up!!

I am not pc savvy but would appreciate help in simple terms, step 1, 2, 3 etc.

Go to Start>All Programs find the application you want on the Start easy access area, click on the app and while holding the mouse down (you'll see a plus mark (+) next to the cursor arrow), drag the app to the Start area and let go of your mouse. You should now see the app shortcut in the area you dropped it.

Right click the system tray or the bar, find Toolbars, put a check on Quick Launch. If the MS Word shortcut was there it should return.
If it is not in the Quick Launch, go to your programs and right click Microsoft Word\Send To\Desktop (create a shortcut)
now the MS Word icon will be on the desktop, grab the icon by holding the left mouse button down on it and drag into the Quick Launch to the right of the start button.

Check in the control panel under network connections for your dial up icon. Ok...done...now have shortcut...Thanks! Shortcut for Windows XP Callendar. When you click start you have 2 columns. When you open and go to Microsoft Works Calendar Left click the Calendar and drag it over to the first column at the top. Close All Programs and now left click and drag the Calendar to your Desktop. That's your shortcut. As for the Reminder for your calendar it's located in Options in the Edit Tab. I didn't check any further.

I was just reading this thread and saw something in Pam's report which may cause a little confusion. Unless I am wrong her suggestion had to do with an entry on the Start Menu not the Programs folder on the C:/ drive. So it would be START>locate the target application entry, right-click, and so on. If a user wanted to use the Program Folder on the C:/ drive as a portal one would open the folder> open the target application sub-folder, and then right-click on the application's .exe file.
