you need to read the info that is with the monitor and see what resolution settings it takes then you need to go into the settings properties in your windows 7 and change the resolution settings to match what your monitor requires. I looked up your monitor on the HP site and it states the native resolution should be set at 1600 X 900. How to Change the Screen Resolution in Windows 7

look for a little shaded vertical bar, grab it with your mouse and slide it open or a little arrow, that you click and will get a drop down with those missing things Youve probably just grabbed it with your mouse by accident and slid the menu bar one way or the other. Or drug it up or down out of place from what youre accustomed to. You should be able to drag it back then right click and put a check mark next to lock toolbar... so it's not likely to happen again.
