Beautiful bathroom! I'm amazed at how quickly you've gotten all your accessories - towels, framed artwork, towel bars, plant stand, etc,- picked and put into place. We've been in our house for 5 months and I still haven't put up artwork, or bought new towels that go with the new bathroom or a myriad of other things on our "finishing touches" To Do List.

We already owned most of the accessories (like the art, and plant stand), so that was easy. The rest of the accessories, we had plenty of time to buy because we signed the contract for construction in April, and work didn't start til September ... and there were plenty of breaks in construction for us to measure and plot and purchase. Most importantly for me - - had to have the windows covered!!

callaloo...it's hard to get a feel for your layout..could you please....provide/describe how your shower is laid out and it's inside dimensions, including it's doorway...we want to go with a shower without a door and would love to know your plan.

Here's another photo of the shower enclosure, before the glass was installed, that may be helpful.

The shower is about 5 feet wide at its widest, including the bench, and about 4 feet deep. It takes a little jog (about 12 inches) to give clearance to the window, which we didn't want to move. The knee-wall (pony wall?) only frames part of the perimeter, so that the entrance area has just a 3"-4" tall lip. The doorless opening is 28" wide; the rest is framed by glass.

The rain showerhead is centered above the enclosure, and having used it, we don't find that it splatters beyond the enclosure. Instead of using a cloth bath mat, we are using a teak one, so any splatters will land on a non-skid, non-molding surface.

Despite my fears, I haven't found the lack of a door to make things chilly. However, the design allows a door to be retro-fitted should we change our minds. Our bath designer touted the doorless design as one which would make mold (the bane of my existence!) less likely to form.

nice selection of tile and marble.. a very good blend.. A+++ job!!

The vanity is about 7 feet wide. We have so much storage space now that 2 out of the 3 drawers are empty, so I think it could be narrower and still provide the same feel.

It really looks great. I have a question since we are considering a center cabinet on the vanity. It is hard to tell from the picture, but how deep is the cabinet on top of the vanity? Is it boxed in between the wall studs for added depth? thanks

Fantastic job. I have a question about the shower system. It appears you have a hand-held and a rain head. Can you describe the operation of your temp/volume control and/or diverters? I'll be putting in just the 2 fixtures and I'm trying to decide how I should configure the operables and whatnot. Nevermind the garbled jargon :)

More answers -- sorry if I don't know all the lingo:

pharoah - I'd heard of starphire glass, but wasn't interested. I'm all about green, and having a greenish tinge to my glass was fine with me.

skogkatt - the cabinet is only 12 inches deep (it's 24 inches wide, so not really able to be set between studs). We have a large linen closet in our upstairs hallway, and another in our bedroom, so those combined with the storage in the new vanity are more than enough for us.

codnuggets -- yes, we have both a rain head and a handheld. Each has it's own valve and temp/volume control, so we don't have a diverter. It was a bit of a splurge, but I wanted the option of running both heads at the same time. Believe me, this was one of the more difficult decisions we had to make, since I knew so little about the technical stuff.

WOW, I'm impressed. I love your vanity and granite. The shower came out beautifully.

We just finished an open shower too! I wanted body sprays but the plumber said it would use too much water. (We're on well & septic) Anyway, I went with the rain & handheld. I absolutely did not want a diverter either. (What kind of fun is that, if you can't have both on at the same time?! :-))

Anyway, (don't know the lingo) our setup has one handle that sets the temperature & one each for the on/off for the rainhead & handheld. It's very convenient b/c the temp is always set right and you just turn the handle for either head (or both.)

It was totally worth the extra few pennies. I hope to post pictures in a month or so.

No, I am not from the islands ... though it seems a part of my soul permanently resides on a sailboat skimming across the Caribbean Sea.

We try to bring little elements of island style into our home (like the gecko tile) without succumbing altogether. (It just wouldn't go with a center hall colonial in the mid-Atlantic!)
