I will give you a link that will be a super helper to you for making those click here links, you just go to it, paste in the url, give it a name, click the button and voila it gives you the code to put in here to make it a clickable link.

Also for those using firefox there is a wonderful little extension add on that makes any link text like the one you just posted clickable, it is called
text link

you simply put the cursor over any written url and double click on it and firefox will open it in a new tab.

I always have liked Steve Gibsons site for testing firewalls it will tell you where you have leaks and just how secure your firewall is. My zonealarm pro is totally stealth.

Thanks Owbist, so I guess free Zone Alarm is doing a good job? I was surprised. Somehow I always think the paid versions are better than the free.

Steve Gibson knows his stuff, his tests are highly regarded, he has been on Tech Tv with Leo Laporte several times and on other tech shows. I have been going to his site for many years.
His tests are what matter.

By the way I had purposefully left those links as not active links so people could try the other 2 suggestions on how to make links clickable.
I don't know how I lived with out that firefox extension.

And yes zone alarm free and pro are both excellent and pass the tests. In fact for years zone alarm was the only firewall that passed the tests.

The site I showed in the OP indicated ZA Pro is way down on the list. It was indicated to me that if the Pro version was way down and the Pro version is presumably more betta than the ZA Free and since ZA Free didn't even make the list by implication ZA Free isn't worth didly and since Comodo Free topt that list presumably its the best there is.

Well I read thru the whole thing with a jaundiced eye. Looked at the dates which are recent. Their scoring seemed arbitrary and they were not independent from the vendors. I'm not convinced ZA Free wasn't left off on purpose. Maybe it was better than Comodo?

I am always deeply suspicious of any test regardless of the testers supposed qualifications.

So far ZA Free hasn't failed me that I know of. If I switched to Comodo and it didn't fail me either than how would I ever know which was best? I wouldn't.

Best test for most of us is to use the product(s) which are the concensus opinion on forums like this where conflict of interest gets washed out and personal experience gets factored in.

Thanks for the test link extension Raven. There are so many useful firefox extensions that it seems to me a person could spend full time looking for them.
mxyplx's link rates the comodo firewall as best. I'm sure it's a very secure firewall but I tried it for a couple of months and found it not to be user friendly for this user. I was afraid I was going to wear out my mouse button clicking every time I installed something new even though I put the firewall in installation mode first.

The link didn't work for me either.

Which link??? I posted several links in my post some that are clickable some not, all work here. IF you mean the unclickable text links you must have the firefox extension I mentioned to be able to click on those, if you don't, just copy and paste them into your browser.

And if you want to be able to use unclickable links in the future please if you use firefox go get the extension I posted about above, text link, then you can just put your cursor on the text url and double click on it and it will work, if you do not have the extension then no it will not work till you get it and install it.

Thanks for the link to Steve Gibson's site. I have free ZA & passed two tests (stealth mode)and failed a third one.

Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) Â Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation.

abreeze it depends on the version of za you have, I use an older version but it should be similar for you.
Open your za control panel, click on the security tab, security settings then the advanced button, advanced security properties, local zone custom settings, high security settings for local zone, do not have a check for any of the pings, ICMP, IGMP, UDP, TCP and then on the Internet zone custom settings do the exact same thing. Then try a re-test.

it shows for you because it is probably in your cache. To me all I see is a box that says photobucket the image has been moved or deleted.

did you look under that zone tab for the settings? you may need someone that is familiar with that version since I am not. But I do see a zones tab right behind that advanced settings pop up. There might be an advanced setting there??
Mine looks totally different but I thought it would probably be similar and in the same general area.

I also have ZoneAlarm version:7.0.470.000 and it doesn't show or I cannot find Ping stuff, not only that I lookt in ZA help under PING and ZoneAlarm version:7.0.470.000 does not have what they say it does.

They musta tooken it out.

Here's what it says:
To change a port's access permission:

Select Firewall:Main.
In either the Internet Zone Security or the Trusted Zone Security area, click Custom.
The Custom Firewall Settings dialog appears.

Scroll to locate High and Medium security settings.
To block or to allow a specific port or protocol, click the check box beside it.
Be aware that when you select a traffic type in the High security settings list, you are choosing to ALLOW that traffic type to enter your computer under High security, thus decreasing the protection of the High security level. Conversely, when you select a traffic type in the Medium security settings list, you are choosing to BLOCK that traffic type under Medium security, thus increasing the protection of the Med security level.

Click Apply, then click OK.

Note that I got this from the help file in Program files > ZoneLab. This is slightly different than the help file ZA coughs up from the control panel.

The "custom" tab isn't there - anyway I sure cannot see it. There is an "advancd" tab but it doesn't get to ping.

I have pasted below the ZA help subject which preceeded the one I pasgted above. It looks to me like ZA musta removed the option for changing these default values. Then forgot to change the help file accordingly. Hope I.m rong.
