can't upload antivirus

I have Windows 7 internet explorer. My Norton antivirus expires in 10 days. Comcast has a free version that I uploaded ok on my computer, but on my DH's computer it keeps knocking me out saying it cannot upload and then it say windows explorer has quit working. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks bunches.

You must uninstall all Norton crap before you download & install another.

Try using a different browser, there's no reason to fight with a browser when you're trying to accomplish something unrelated to it.

I suggest you uninstall the "old" Norton version currently on the PC before installing the one from Comcast

Christopher, I do not think it is that simple. I have been downloading pictures from my iPad for months to the gardenweb.. Trend Antivirus taking FOREVER to Scan

One option would be to run a scan in Safe Mode. If you've picked up an infection, maybe it's causing problems with the scan. You could also disable Trend temporarily, download and install a different antivirus program to see if it can perform the scan. There are many choices available and many of them are free. You didn't say how old the machine is, but you could be seeing the first signs of a hard drive failure. Have you experienced problems running any other programs?

try using this program to uninstall it then install your proper version of MSE (be sure you get the one for your version of windows) free AppRemover utility since it is an xp computer you will need to be sure you do not get the 64 bit option. Security Essentials 4.2.223 XP Please check to make sure he is able to get windows updates and also he is able to create restore points. There is an infection we have seen that causes you not to be able to and it also disables the antivirus so just want to make sure. I would also install and run the free malwarebytes and run a full scan just to be sure. It is a program I think everyone should have on their pc, update an run the scan every couple of weeks. "It's erratic, and it's more likely to work if you upload FIRST and then write about the picture. For me, it's not at all erratic. I've tried all sorts of permutations and nothing works. And, before now, I NEVER had a problem. I sent an email to HOUZZ and they asked me to clear my history, cache and cookies. I use CCleaner and will periodically clear all that, usually leaving cookies like Houzz and yahoo for example. So, this time when I used CCleaner, I made a point of asking that the Houzz and Gardenweb cookies be deleted. (Houzz does not make it easy to log back in, but I finally figured that out.) They asked my browser. Google Chrome. Nothing changed. Same problem. What's somewhat interesting is that I can upload to my "Ideabook" at Houzz, then click the "Houzz Photo" link and will be offered the chance to select from pictures in my "Ideabook". I've taken pictures in the winter through my bedroom window as the birds come for the food scraps I throw out for them. I was big into peas at the time. Hay

ok I'm really having a dilemma here. I uninstalled Norton and still cannot download anything. I called Comcast and they couldn't remote into the computer. he said i won't be able to download anything because something is wrong with explorer. how do i bring the computer back to the factory mode. we also tried in safe mode and that didn't work either. thank you all bunches and bunches for any help you can give me.

"Something is wrong with explorer," Do you mean explorer.exe. Not internet explorer right. explorer .exe is the windows shell and provides all the desktop Icons, start menu etc.

If that is the case do a system restore back a few days and see.

You can also recreate explorer.exe from the task manager

The only browser we use on the computer is internet explorer. We can go onto the internet. the problem is I cannot download any free anti virus or download anything. I keep getting a message that say it cannot download and then it kicks me out of the internet. I was able to uninstall the Norton, which was ending anyway.

Try the system restore first. Do you know how to do it ?

Just Google System restore win 7 if you have trouble.

update and a big thank you for all the help and suggestions.
I did a restore and still couldn't download the free antivirus. so I thought, ok,let me try to download google chrome. Well, that worked and now I have download the free antivirus from Comcast.net. The only question I have about google chrome is how do I get back to the home page after going into other sites?

Linda, on the upper right corner of Chrome, you should see three horizontal lines. Click on that and look for Settings. You will then see a number of items, one of which is choosing and setting your home page. Once you have used it a while, I think you will like Chrome very much. I also use Firefox, but Chrome is my favorite browser.

Thank you grandms. My DH is very happy right now. I think I'm going to use Chrome on my laptop also.
