Use a removal tool to get rid of Norton like AppRemover and go with MSE by Microsoft or Avast both are free.

Consumer Reports recently reported their study of AVs. In it they showed the main four, AVG, Avast and Avira with almost identical results. Of the four MSE came in last. However, the difference was minor.

Virus Bulletin at the link below will provide you with valuable information to make your selection. I recommend you register to take advantage of all the free information available.

The two things a user must remember is always use the appropriate AV removal tool, and since these are free applications nothing is permanent or at a cost loss.

So, I've been deleting Norton for two days now and it's still not saying it is Finished. It finally says 100% complete but hasn't moved to the Finished button. Why is it taking so long and can I just close that window out and hope it really deleted it?

Did you use the Norton removal tool, or just delete the Norton file...YOu must use the removal tool

I would go ahead and close that out then get app remover and run it see if it finds anything left of Norton.

Right ravencajun. Then post a Hijackthis log, so we can see it's gone. I'll provide the Hijackthis download instructions if you ask for them.

I closed the window out and reran the app remover and it's still there. So, am redoing it. This is the third time. First time it was taking too long. Second time I just left my computer open all night. It never did get to the finished part. Just said 100% complete but you couldn't move on to NEXT because it never said finished. I really despise computers.

Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop. Right click the Hijackthis Icon and Run as Adminstrator if you use Vista or Windows 7
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log into your next post.
DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

Then do this

Double click the hijackthis Icon on the Desktop, Scroll down to Open the Misc Tools section Click it at the bottom under System tools click "Open Uninstall Manager"[ over to the right click "Save List" Save it to your Desktop so you may find it, copy and paste it in your next reply..
