I have glassed in a screened porch with sliding glass thermopane units. These are set on a 24" high knee wall topped with a 10 inch wide plate that makes a good wide sill for a glass or dish. Have had no problem at all. You can open them up easily for air or close them quickly if the rain or dust comes. I dont think they will muffle your noises completely though.

Funny you should mention this! I am contemplating putting one over my sink and I do have a window there. There is a 35 inch space between the two cabinets. I have an island with seating that faces the sink....so people could sit at the island and watch sports etc. I am a foodnetwork addict and I usually work on my island with my back to this area, but could move to the side of the island if there was a good episode on so that I could watch. I think it would be a really nice set up...I am supposed to get a bonus on my first check in September and off to Ultimate electronics I go!

Yes, I know about the springs. The fact that the screens need springs in the first place is the design flaw. I have to push very hard on the top frame to compress those springs enough. It is not just a matter of pushing up on the top screen frame with my thumbs. It is pushing really really hard, and if you get the spring on the left to compress enough, the one on the right is not compressed enough, and vice versa. Then you have the "finger indents" at the bottom of the screen. I am a woman with small hands, yet my fingertips are too big to get any purchase in those shallow indents to fit enough so that I can lift the screen up and out. Then you have to put the screens back in. They have to be lined up "just so", and then you have to push up against those springs again. Very very difficult to compress the two springs enough at the same time so that both are compressed enough to push the screen up so that then you can, you hope, then push the bottom of the screen into place. I have 7 of these screens, and 5 were installed at different time from the other 2. They are all equally difficult, so I didn't get a lemon. It should not be that hard. My cheap-o old horrible windows had screens that came out and could be put back in easy as can be. My neighbor has brand new Pellas, and while I detest Pellas, and would never buy Pella windows in a million years, the Pella screens are pretty normal and effortless.

I think you correctly pointed out all the problems with this idea. If you want a computer in your kitchen, get a Chromebook that can be put into tent mode (that's what I do) or get an iPad on a stand. Either option is going to be more useful than a manufacturer's idea of a computing device integrated into your fridge. Heck, if you really need it mounted to your fridge door, you probably can do that with both a Google Slate or an iPad. If you feel particularly creative, you can probably even hide the charging cable inside of the door panel. But details would vary depending on fridge model. I personally find that my Google Home is actually the most useful computing device, as it can convert quantities in my recipes and make additions to my shopping list without me having to touch anything with my greasy fingers. But I do occasionally use my Chromebook to show recipes. And I know that some people like to watch TV while in the kitchen.
