until I read about the Advantium from GW, I would not have known about it to incorporate it into my peninsula

Which Advantium are you getting??? The 120 built-in is a true convection oven  so you would use that instead of your toaster oven  it would do a much better job on everything except toast.

You might look at the electrolux high speed oven (and turbo chef), like the advantium it can replace the microwave and toaster oven. It's similar technology to the oven they use at Subway to toast their sandwiches in 30-seconds.

Since we put an Advantium into our new kitchen, we bought a conventional toaster and retired our old toaster oven.

gizmo, we did the same (advantium 120). But I really miss my toaster oven. I make a lot of melted cheese on toast or an english muffin. The Advantium was supposed to be great for this kind of thing, but I find it a pain to change out to the metal tray (we keep the glass try in there most of the time for microwave use), and then it seems to take a long time in "speed cook" mode to get crispy on the bottom and melty on top. Much longer than my old toaster oven used to take. I've only tried the broil function with the raised rack a couple of times - it took forever, and dried out the bread before getting brown. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I get the impression that the 240 model is faster, but I've never seen one in use. Which Advantium do you have, and how do you use it for these type of tasks? I'm still searching for the perfect cheese on toast! Can anyone out there help?? I was actually thinking of bringing my old Toaster Oven out of retirement.

jeri/gizmonike/needanap: I haven't settle on the 120 or the 240 Advantium yet.

gizmonike: what about stuff that do not fit in a standard toaster like extra fat bagels or large slices of bread, etc? that's what I used the toaster oven for sometimes.

needanap: that's one of my concerns is that sometimes the Advantium may not be the best for toasting.

Huango, I chucked my toaster oven (to my son's first apartment) and replaced it with a Cuisinart (convection) Brick Oven. It is a little larger than a toaster oven, easier to clean and large enough for nearly everything I need to bake for two people. It makes the best pizza I've ever done at home. Settings are bake, broil, toast, and convection. For us, it is a true replacement for a toaster oven.

We have the 240 wall Advantium. We have drawers underneath it, & I store all the trays in the top drawer, so it's easy for family members to pull out the one needed. In addition to speed cooking things like frozen chicken strips, it makes fantastic marinated chicken breasts and the cookbook has a great recipe for a one dish meal using pork tenderloin, small red potatoes, & baby carrots.

We have never made melted cheese on toast or muffins, so I don't miss that function. Grilled cheese, yes, but in a griddle or pan. Our realtor gave us a panini machine after our old house sold, but I haven't tried it out yet.

As for our toaster, we bought a Braun that has a long & extra wide slot for English muffins, bagels, or large slices of bread. It includes a rack that fits on top for heating buns & rolls, but we don't use that much.

We've been having problems with our Blue Star range oven so we needed a big toaster oven for not a lot of money. We purchased the Cuisinart Brick Oven for $199 and LOVE IT. It's a great "toaster" oven because it's pretty spacious and has enough space to fit a 1/4 sized baking sheet and has 2 racks. It also has ceramic sidewalls and a removable pizza stone. It heats up very quickly and cooks very evenly. Unfortunately we bought the non-convection version before we knew there was convection available. We're very happy with it, though, and it does a great job of baking small batches of cookies, oven-baked chicken breasts, brownies, etc. It's easy to clean and also toasts. We do have a top-slot toaster though which we use for our toasting. Highly recommended.

As to the Advantium, it sounds great but $1500+ is pricey, just for a faster cook time. That, and we don't have the space for it.
