Fully integrated DW - drawers or conventional?

Hi, I need a dishwasher that is a fully integrated one, ready for a custom panel. And I've got an issue of toe kick furniture feet on the cabinet so the KD suggested to go with the drawers. I'm not totally convinced though.

Do you think the FP dishdrawers clean as well and fit as many dishes, pans as the conventional ones? If not, please post too.

And if you have a fully integrated conventional DW - tell me about your Miele, Bosch, or Asko and why I should get that one.

I've done a lot of searching and reading here about the Fisher Paykel dishdrawers so I hope this isn't just a rehash or too similar to others posts.

I have the double drawer, Tall top tub F&P Dish Drawers. Model #DD24DCHTX6. It was installed in May, professionally. Even though I knew dh could do it, I really wanted to make sure it was done right so there would be no questions about the installation by the company or the store that we bought it from. In my case, paying the fee for the installation was worth it--they even installed an outlet under my sink to plug it into, turns out it isn't hard wired like other d/washers we have had.
This unit replaced a very nice Bosch. Only replaced it because it was black and the initial estimate to switch the door to ss was only $150, but when it came time to order, suddenly it was going to cost me over $300 for what I needed. Didn't want to spend that on an 8 year old d/w.

Did a lot of research, and as my last child is heading off to college in only a few short weeks from now, we went with the drawers.

They work great. I believe that they had issues in earlier models, but the place I bought it from told me that they haven't seen the level of service calls lately.

Ours has a water softener in it, we have very very hard water. My dishes sparkle. When the salesman told us that he went to a F&P meeting, the company rep put a layer cake in the dishdrawer, then they went to their seminar while the dd ran. When they came back, the cake was completely gone and the plate was clean. He said the unit was in the room, so he knew it wasn't a trick.

Our top drawer is larger than the bottom and it holds 13" plates.

It really works for our lifestyle.

gwentm, I'm about to install our KitchenAid KUDE70FVPA (panel-ready) dishwasher, and our cabinet maker is creating the custom door panel as I type... When making my appliance purchase decision I was out here quite a bit, reading about this issue, and I was real specific with my GC and cabinet maker about this question. Our lower cabinets are the standard 24" depth, but given that the wall behind them isn't perfectly flat along the long length of this wall, the dw opening happens to be about 24 3/16" deep from the rear wall to the front of the cabinet structure. Although the KUDE70 specs state that the total depth of the DW is 24 7/8", I measured our panel-ready model (ordered well-in-advance) and determined that when pushed flat against a wall, the front of the DW door that the custom panel attaches to is actually 24 1/4 inches out from the wall. Our cabinet style choice was to have overlaid drawer and cabinet fronts (with added raised molding, fwiw). The 3/4"-thick door/drawer fronts, with the little vinyl pads, protrude about 25" from the wall. So, I expect our 3/4" custom panel, added to the 24 1/4" panel-ready DW, to fit perfectly :-). Note that had we opted for *flush* cabinets and drawers, we would have needed to find another inch of depth to match up with the custom DW panel... Also, our granite counters have a 5/8" overhang past the door/drawer fronts, so the DW will be "totally integrated" under the counter. Pictures below... Good luck to you, -- brian

Miele fully integrated dishwasher question - handles

I think I want a stainless Miele dishwasher with hidden controls, but I don't like any of their handle options. In my quest to decide on visible vs. hidden control dishwasher (see my earlier post), I discovered the option mentioned in this post: Order a Miele fully-integrated unfinished dishwasher along with the optional "blank" (no holes, no handle) stainless front panel, no-holes (Miele part number 21995337D). However, I've looked at the cartoon installation instructions referred to above, and I can't quite figure out how this works with a stainless panel. The instructions seem to show how it works with a wood panel, but I'm unclear on how my own handle would attach to a stainless panel. I realize you can drill through the stainless (well, I can't, but my installer can), but I'm not sure what a handle would "grab onto" in a stainless panel, because I'm not sure what the stainless panel looks like out of the box. If you order part number 21995337D, do you get 3/4-inch thick stainless steel? The install instructions say the panel has to be 3/4 inches thick, but if it were pure metal that would weigh 100 pounds! Or is it a thin sheet of stainless over some type of wood? My problem is that I can't figure out if I need some special type of handle with special dimensions, or if this stainless, no-holes, no-handle panel from Miele is engineered in some way to grab onto any handle that can be screwed in from behind. Has anyone ever seen this panel, and can you explain how it works to install a custom handle onto it?

@opaonePurchased and installed in 2013. We have two side by side. One of the freezer arms will not stay in the off position and you have to remember to reach in and manipulate if you want ice. The other freezer is fine. We have had them here 3 times to repair it and they say it is fine. We would also have build up of frost. Bad heating element in freezer has been replaced. The have had to remount the compressor unit most recently. The most annoying problem is that you will open the fridge one day and water is all over the bottom of refrigerator and leaking out. The refrigerator "drains" clog and it causes quite a mess and I have to then have them come out for repairs to take it apart in order to get to the drains. It is always a service charge of $90 just to show up and then the labor and parts usually has it add up from anywhere between $180-400. When they were still under warranty Subzero would pay for the parts.

2nd option is always best. Manufacturers reserve the right to change specs without letting you know or publishing them in advance. And sometimes the are just plain wrong. If you proceed based on manufacturer's diagrams alone, and it's wrong, you'd better be prepared to eat the first panel and pay for the second because the cabinet maker won't do it and you'll never get the manufacturer to pick up the costs. They'll just point to their fine print, and the cabinet make will just say I told you so. As far as the install, it's a team effort. You need both on hand. Yes, that's twice the money, but it beats having to call the cabinet maker in the middle to modify a panel or for the cabinet maker to call the appliance guys for clarification about some bracket. Delays should be built into your expectations for the remodel. If you are lucky and everything goes as planned with a simple job, a kitchen remodel will only take 3 months. If you have a complicated kitchen, and have built ins and other issues, then 6 months would be closer to a normal time line. It ain't TV!
