Using a removable disk...problems??

Long story, short, and one question:

I needed to Photoshop edit some pictures for the print shop, so I used my flash drive? memory stick? to take them from the work computer and edit them on my home computer. The print shop said they had a virus. I checked my computer and no virus, but the one at work had some minor virus.

Question:

Since I used the removable disk and only worked in Photoshop and then returned the edited pictures right back to the removable disk, is there any chance that my home C drive could be hurt? My limited understanding of computers tells me that nothing was ever downloaded to my computer, so nothing can hurt it. Correct?

If there was a virus on the flash drive, there's a chance that your home PC got infected. You should download a virus scanner and check it out ASAP. There are a number of free virus programs (Avira and Avast are two that come to mind). Here is a good online free scanner. You can scan your entire drive with it, but it will only identify existing viruses and won't protect you from new ones.

Malwarebytes also has a free on demand virus scanner that is very good.

Read the post by zep516 in this thread for good instructions on using Malwarebytes.

scan the flash drive with your antivirus..right click your flash drive a scan it

I don't recall that you mentioned this detail. It will cost you nothing to check it. You did ask for help. The only power transfer is between metal drive disc on the crankshaft and the rubber tire on the driven wheel then between the liner on the inside of the driven wheel and the drum that it rides on. There is no pressure plate. The fiber disc is, as I said previously, simply a spacer NO power is transmitted via this part. There is a Mirad of things that could cause your problem from sheared thru bolt in one of the hubs to worn out shifter yoke or grease on the drum where the liner runs. Things do wear out and slip adjustment. I am afraid you will have to do more checking to pin point it. Might start by standing the mower on its' rear standards with shifter in neutral, grasp both wheels alternately push and pull on them then one at a time Wheels should feel connected to each other when both are turned and driven wheel should spin. Holding one wheel while turning the other should make held wheel want to turn backwards and driven wheel spin. While there check the position of the stop for the shifter yoke, check for worn dips in the shifter yoke where the roller on the center chain case runs back and forth to change speeds also to raise and lower the center chain case with the rubber tired driven wheel on it. This should be basically flat, no deep hollows in it, check for broken or weak pressure spring on the shifter yoke for starts. Walt Conner

Remove Baseboards or Use Quarter Round for New Hardwood Install?

Appreciate the responses. Do I need to worry about adequate expansion room for the new hardwood if I don't remove the existing baseboards and just use shoe molding? We had the house built 20 years ago and the hardwood and carpets were installed underneath the 4.5 inch baseboards. I really don't care to lose a portion of the height of my baseboards by using quarter round or shoe molding. This would result in a "mismatched" look when compared to the baseboards in my other rooms. My preference is to have the baseboards removed prior to the new floor installation. I just have to decide if it makes more sense to try to preserve the original baseboards for re-installation or have new baseboards installed and painted. Here are some pics of the trim and baseboards in the 2 rooms that will have hardwood installed. Both rooms were recently painted, but I don't mind repainting baseboards as long as I get the best quality installation of the new floors and baseboards that look like these again when done. Anyone ever used hydrogen peroxide to remove old blood stains?

Hydrogen peroxide works on fairly fresh stains but you still need to test on an inconspicuous area. DH has a beautiful white terry cloth robe that the kids gave him for father's day and he managed to get some blood on it. He used hydrogen peroxide which took out the blood stain but it also yellowed the robe. I've never had that happen before. The robe was 100% cotton and the label tag said not to use a chlorine bleach. I've had positive experiences with Clorox totally Spotless Feminine Stain Remover. I hate the name and wrote them a letter complaining about it but the product does work. According to the label it contains Hydrogen Peroxide, Nonionic Surfactant. I have no idea why it should work any better that plain hydrogen peroxide but it has even removed some older blood stains.

I would not put pot lights in a bedroom get a nice ceiling fixture to use for all over light and to add a bit of pizazz I agree that bed needs much more tailored bedding and the drapes need to be heavier to really work in a color that works with the new bedding. A random pillow with no connection to anything else in the room does not work. Go find some bedding that you love and build your color scheme around it that is how I always design a bedroom there is no reason to be boring with neutrals, It would also be nice to see the whole space too. This is what I mean by more tailored bedding and pillows that connect to something in the space

When you run any infected file from a removable disk or drive you've most likely just spread the infection to your computer if your virus program didn't catch it early enough before it ran or befroe it even tried to run.

yes in fact that is how the conficker pest travels is by removalable media, it is why microsoft put out warnings to turn off the auto load features for removable media and if you are not up to date on your windows updates you definitely could have got conficker or some other infection.

Always when you put a device in your usb port immediately find that drive on the pc and right click and select to run your antivirus program on it and your malwarebytes on it to make sure before you open it on that pc that it is clean, if you don't then you sure run the risk of infecting any pc you put it into.

As stated get and run malwarebytes asap and go run a good online virus scan also (be sure to always update the program prior to running a full scan)
