print to file

I have seen the term "print to file" but have to say I really don't know what it is. I have a laptop on a wireless to my router but not networked to me desktop. I wish to be able to take items off the laptop using probably my thumb drive and using my desktop to print them up. I tried using a print server but gave that up as a hopeless venture. I would appreciate any help doing the print jobs that I can get.

thanks

ABH

I don't know what you wish to print but say for example a web page that's in your browser you could save it several ways for printing but the easiest certainly would be to just simply save it to your thumb drive then open it on the desktops browser and select print.

Same deal with most any file.

Print to file means that you will print to a file instead of a printer.

You may have better results if you copy the file you want to print to the other machine and print from there.

When I attempt to print a pdf file using the Mozilla File:Print there is a selection in the lower left of the print screen that allows you to "Print to file." Why printing to file doesn't occur for you with other types of files is peculiar. Your brand of printer may have other choices, that mine do not. Suggest you divulge more secret info, like operating system, printer name, etc.

Hi Colin, Thanks for the suggestion but I did try that and I couldn't click and drag it anywhere unfortunately. I know I have added things to my tool bar before using that method, but unfortunately for some reason it isn't working this time. I will keep trying things however, as I am sure it is something easy I am over looking. Abbey

@cpartist - I completely agree with you. We've looked at several more plans and hopefully are getting close to settling on one. We do tend to use most of our rooms, surprisingly, especially at the kid's current ages. I can't really determine what will happen when they get older and their hang out area changes. The formal dining room isn't used as much as I'd like but we do entertain a lot and the loads of food migrate to the formal dining room. And I'm totally over having the kids eat at the kitchen island, which why I was leaning towards plans with both a breakfast area and formal dining. I've changed my mind on that and am okay with just one large dining room area. :) Formal living rooms are pointless in my opinion, but some of the plans we've seen we knew we could change that area into a billiards room if it didn't have one...my husband wants to go pro so you know I have to support his dreams. ;) It is hard at the moment because right now the space is needed but I know when the kids move out we won't need all the bedrooms. We're huge family-oriented people and I believe at some point in the future we'll be housing my parents and possibly my husband's parents. I think the rooms will get use out of them in the future as well as now.
