wall sconces up or down?
Comments (3)You can invert the fixtures but you may have issues with the bulbs burning base up (short life) from the heat. Given that the lights normally won't be on that long I doubt it will be a problem. If it does become a problem you can buy bulbs designed for use in a paddle fan light which are designed for burning base up....See MoreBathroom wall sconces -- up lighting or down lighting?
Comments (2)I bought a fixture for a remodel that is supposed to be installed down. We hated the way it put hard shadows on our faces in the mirror, so we turned it up and it bounces tons of ambient light all over the bathroom from a semi-gloss white painted ceiling. Looks way better and lights much better. The shades are frosted glass, which may help throw light around a bit more as well. I wouldn't try this with solid shades or cones, however, may not be enough lighting elsewhere in the bath....See MoreISO sconces that shine both up and down
Comments (10)Thank you all SO MUCH for posting all these great lamps! I love them all! I can see I have some research to do. And now I have several places to look. :) I'll talk to DH about putting track lighting along the beam. I know he's often said he wants to put track lighting in our living room area, but there are "issues." Adding lighting is an ongoing problem with this house. The exterior walls are log and can't be "opened up" to add fixtures or outlets, so we have to work with what's already here. Same thing with the interior walls--they're all wood paneling, making it difficult to repair the wall if we want to move a light fixture. (We can't just add a patch of drywall and paint over it.) The ceilings are also wood (the ceilings are actually the floor of the second story of the house). So if we put track lighting or anything else with a wire on the ceiling, we have to cover the wire with a strip of wood trim. I'll post photos when we get the new sconces. Thanks again!...See MoreWall sconces and recessed lighting in bathroom help???
Comments (16)The recessed lights are fine. They are for general lighting. The sconces are the more specific task lighting and will eliminate any shadowing. That’s quite a lot of light, actually. You may want to tweak the wattage of the bulbs later, depending on how it feels after you get it all together. I would also put a dimmer on one or both light switches for late night visits. Tip: address appliance outlets in the vanity while you can - if you haven’t already. If you’re right handed, having the cord strung across the sink is a pain. I had an outlet installed down the right side of the vanity and have my hair dryer on a hook there. You may have a better solution for storage inside, but either way it’s a good time to take care of it....See Morepattiem93
