Install update 13, it should auto uninstall the old 6 update 11.

Check the add/remove programs list you should only see 6 update 13 any older ones remove them yourself.. through the add/remove programs.

Now this was really strange. When I clicked on the task bar near the clock to download the update, well it wouldn't I got a msg something to the effect that Windows wouldn't download or install it because it wasn't a valid signature. So what's that about, where did it go? I looked in add/remove and my version 6 update 11 is there. The update notification is no longer around. Strange.

Click start, control panel in there look for Java looks like a coffee cup double click it at the top you should see UPDATE, UNcheck any additional software it wants to down load give that a try.

I double clicked on the coffee cup icon, the box that came up had tabs. General, Update, Java, Security and Advanced. I clicked on Update. It is set to notify me before install, there is a check mark next to check for updates automatically. When I clicked on the lower button to check for updates the msg read: You already have the latest Java (TM) Platform on this system. But the version is 6 Update 11 according to this info and what's in the add/remove section. I can't make sense of this. When I went to the Java site, there were so many different 6 Update 13 that I didn't do anything there. Should I just not worry about the strangeness of this whole matter, or should I be looking to get 6 Update 13 for my XP? Thank you.

Sapphires, use the first one under Windows (online). That is for XP and Vista and should work well for you. It's the one I used for my XP.
