?? re travertine shower over concrete foundation

Most of the questions and answers here pertain to shower built on subfloor. My questions pertain to a shower on a concrete foundation. First, what is the proper order for the liner and mortar bed when installing on top of concrete? I'm holding my breath for the answer because my second question is about mildew (a very small amount) developing on the floor grout in a travertine shower. Is the mildew there because I haven't sealed the travertine yet? When I clean the mildew and seal the stone, am I ok? Someone told me that the mildew would "only develop if there was a moisture problem underneath the tile." Boy I hope that's not true.

Order of installation is the same with a wood subfloor: sloped mud bed first (on the concrete), liner second, sloped mud bed on top of liner third, then tile.

Travertine probably isn't the best material to use for a shower floor.

I have a 4 foot by 8 foot front porch that is very uneven. It slopes about 2.5 to 3 inches from one side to the other. Can I add a concrete overlay, starting with 1 inch on left to 4 inches on right? I have been told yes and no. Most recently, I was told I could do it if I used wire and anchors in the old slab.

Yes your area does have termites but that shouldnt be your primary concern. I would make sure that any wood touching concrete is pressure treated to avoid rot. Concrete wicks up water. Or they can use a sill gasket to keep non pressure treated lumber from touching the concrete. DIY_Mike

I think it would look great, especially with a sealer that brings out the color. How much does this slab weight? I had a 40 by 60 inch slab cut out of my 10 inch thick foundation for a basement egress window. I thought about using the slab as part of the retaining wall in the new window well, but when I figured out that the piece was gonna weigh about 2000 pounds, and that the concrete cutting company wasn't gonna help me move it, I just dug a deep hole and dropped it in.

The honeycombing should be cleaned out to solid material, then patched with non-shrink grout. The bugholes may or may not be defects, depending on the size and the contract.
