SOE has limited area shipping for Miele and other brands with geographic assignments. These include Jenn-Air,Sub Zero,Viking and Wolf.

For SOE that means for these brands they can ship to CA,AZ,NV,and FL.

I see that they are part of the same group as Westar, which is one of our local showrooms. We have also found some outstanding deals there, including a Miele warming drawer for $150. Definitely worth checking out.

Is it risky buying these appliances in terms of being somehow defective?

I felt comfortable buying fron SOE because they are an authorized dealer (also a huge chain in CA). I also always charge large purchases to my AMEX card for extra protection. AMEX doubles the manufacturer's warranty.

I was told the clearance stock consists of store display models, discontinued models and special orders that customers cancelled. There are some small scratches on a couple of items I bought, but some of them look perfect. Call and ask for details if a particular item interests you, and inspect carefully upon delivery.

Good for other brands, but if you purchase a Miele you will not receive nor will you be able to purchase an extended Miele warranty. You can purchase a third-party warranty, but with a Miele product I personally would not do it.

From Miele USA website: Under no circumstances will Miele warrant or guarantee the appliance unless it has been bought from an Authorized Miele Dealer.

SOE is an authorized Miele dealer. It is a high-end chain of stores that happens to have some good deals on floor models, discontinued models, etc. that are exempt from UMRP. I have no idea whether Miele or any other brand will try to get out of honoring a warranty if a product is purchased from an authorized dealer, but at a discount.

Standards of Excellence (SOE) is an authorized dealer, their Premium Appliance Outlet (PAO, and where these are being sold under discount) is not. If they are willing write it up under SOE, then you qualify, under the PAO, you do not. Call Miele.

That is a good point, Fahrenheit. All my receipts are on SOE invoice forms, but I do not know if the same receipts are used for internet sales. I did not buy any Miele products, but given their policies I would call to check before assuming the warranty would apply.

Personally, I plan on buying an extended warranty package for my appliances once I purchase the dishwasher and hood (still looking). For 5 or more appliances, the cost is about $70 per appliance for a 5-year warranty (I wish they sold longer warranties). I may not purchase the extended plan for the Wolf AG range since it has a 2-year warranty that AMEX doubles to 4 years (and a gas range should not have expensive service issues). I also need to call Gaggenau to see if their 5-year warranty will cover the oven and freezer, although at 70% off I will not cry about buying a separate warranty if Gagg will not cover them!

Athomesewing, I am happy to hear you got through and got your oven. I cannot wait to try mine, but it will probably be November or December before we are ready for install. I am so excited about the combi-steam, as I have read so many reviews of it here, but never could have purchased a "non-essential" steam oven at UMRP. Since I have saved so much overall by bargain shopping, DH let it slide by without much comment.;)

If PAO is a completely different corporate entity than SOE then why do they respect the geographical limitations of Miele,JA,SZ,and Viking?

If they are not an authorized dealer simply a liquidator then they should ship anywhere in the US at least.

I called Miele and they said I get the warranty through PAO.

PAO is at the same location as Standard of Excellence Huntington Beach and SOE San Diego.

Called PAO confirmed I get factory warranty with purchase of Miele dishwasher.

I bought Miele LaPerla II Series G2872SCVI for $1669 plus tax with free shipping.

Cheapest I could find at other stores was $1832. This was the exact model I wanted. PAO said product in store aproximately 8 months with no dings or scratches. Will have a full custom panel so no worries if very minor ding or scratch.

BTW The big time Mid-West and Northeast Miele e-tailers no longer ship into CA,AZ,or NV. On Ebay could of bought same model for $1500 plus $241 shipping from non authorized retailer.Rather pay a little extra and get warranty and piece of mind DW not stolen.Equivalent Futura Diamond is $2549 plus tax. So I can live without the LED lights.

Deeageaux, that's great you found the exact DW model you wanted and that Miele said it is covered by the warranty. I have been debating between Miele and Bosch. I hear such great things about Miele's cleaning and longevity, but I prefer the racks on the Bosch.

I got a great deal earlier this year from SOE while they were in the process of rolling out this new internet selling-entity. Their salesmen seem really nice and the store is well-organized. I'd recommend anyone with a specific high-end appliance in mind, just giving them a call advertised sale or no, and asking whether what you want is available. I still wish I could have made room for that sink I saw there. sigh.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention - I just bought a new (but discontinued model) Dacor 27" integrated warming drawer for $188!

Also re Amex warranty...Visa Signature cards also extends warranty by 1 year on most purchases...but they do have an exclusion for "Real estate and items which are intended to become part of real estate including, but not limited to, items that are hard-wired or hard-plumbed, garage doors, garage door openers, and ceiling fans." So, appliances that you plug in should be covered, but ones you hardwire (like range hoods and most wall ovens) are not. Amex is clearly the better benefit, if you have an Amex card already.
