Color printer won't work w new cartridge

I have an HP 990cse color inkjet printer. I just put in a new color ink cartridge and the color printing function will no longer work. The b/w cartridge is almost new.

I did not forget to remove the sticky tape. It's the right cartridge. I have taken it out and reinstalled several times--still nothing. I really can't use the printer--and it's my only one--without color so the situation is pretty desperate. Any ideas?

I suggest you go to the HP website. Click on support and then enter the name and model number of your printer. Opt for the online chat help and see if the help you need is available there. More likely to find a solution there than here where we'd be "guessing" at a solution to your problem.

I'm not familiar with your model of printer but here's one thing to try. I had a similar problem with my HP D1320 model. It was problem free but after changing the color cartridge it took forever to print one page (like 30 minutes). I used their online support and if I remember correctly I was told to hold in the on/off button and, while doing so, open and close the lid 3 or 4 times. That was supposed to "reset" the system. Ultimately we found my problem was that I needed to change my black cartridge --even though it was still half full of ink.

I can certainly sympathize with your situation...I have been without a printer for many months now because the ink cartridges are so expensive. I have a Canon Multipass 550 which has been a lifesaver in the past...being able to fax, copy and print...then when you do breakdown to buy one...install it and it still says empty cartridge, you really want to scream. But get this...the cartridge isn't the problem...it's the print head...to the tune of $50 or so and this is the third time I have replaced it and lord only knows how many cartridges were full before I wised up! Now get this....those print heads can be washed in your kitchen sink, dried on the counter and reinstalled...I sure am glad I saved the other two, i'll try that next time! But, now...I can't get the printer to print everything on the page....it prints one or two lines of the document, then skips a good paragraph size area and picks up the print again......any suggestions! and of course, it doesn't help that the manual is online and no hard copy is provided...I'm ready to do the old uninstall/reinstall thing and see if that helps! Technology sucks....here today, obsolete before noon the next day! and it wasn't a cheapee either...about $250- $300 smack a roos 2-3 years ago! Even with the cheapees....you spend a fortune on ink, that's were they make the money i guess! So what do I have to lose if the washing dosen't work......blank pages! Check out ebay auction number 330166991293. This is the exact system that I have. I'm very pleased with it. I was not able to find a brand name on the box - seems it's a generic from China - but it works well. Of course this won't work with your printer but if you look long enough you'll likely see a system for your printer that obviously comes from the same manufacturer based on the graphics on the box. I'm pretty sure this uses dye based inks. Seems that I came across that discussion doing my research and I decided it wasn't worth the headache to fret over the differences. I think the pigment based inks are supposed to be more long lasting. I decided to go the easier and cheaper route and simply plan to reprint any prints that fade over time.

From what I saw that printer has a poor history. And the error appears to indicate a color cartridge problem. some folks have replaced the color cartridge and resolved the error, for others it has not resolved the error, so I could not recommend buying a cartridge and saying that would take care of it based on my search results, I can say this when purchasing a printer I stay with companies in the printer business like, HP, Cannon, brother, because of the amount of printing I do per day I had to get away from cartridge type because of the expense, and have moved to a Brother Printer - Laser jet\drum type.

I bought one a long time ago that would not accept a replacement cartridge. I called HP, they walked me through a couple of things, then told me they would send a re manufactured printer and I was to ship the other printer back to them using the box & labels inside. I had a another printer the next day if I remember right. Always very good service from HP.

Did you try a little alcohol, on a tissue on the place the tape comes off of, to get it started flowing?

I have found on some models for some reason they want you to replace the black cartridge also, have you tried removing and replacing the current black cartridge along with the new color one? you may try that and even adding a new black one to see if that is what it takes.

and to clarify is it printing at all? does the black print?
what happens when you do try to print?

Gee, I was hoping this thread would drop into oblivion. Now I have to tell the truth.

After I tried everything and then posted here, I went back to trying everything--and I had not completely removed the sticky tape. My brain was visiting another planet, I guess. Thanks for all your suggestions--all good. Blushing hard here.
