Email provider besides GMail or Yahoo?

Hi,

I am looking for a new email provider. I tried yahoo and had so many technical problems I couldn't use it any more. I don't want to use GMail because of their policy of scanning your email to direct advertisements to you. There has to be another email provider that is reliable and easy to use and free. If someone has that and likes it, could you share details?

you might look at www.inbox.com
I have a couple there, they have lots of space and it is free,includes lots of other options too like photo storage, calendar, file storage, organizer.

Another one I have used in the past is www.graffiti.net

it offers only 100MB free but does offer some good options.

I've been pretty pleased with Hotmail over the years. It has been my main one for probably 10 years or so.

Jspeach, since you've posted I've thought about seeing someone else's posts here saying same thing. Angela, confusion made clear -simply- my pc scans clean, so that's a good news, it seems Microsoft Security-Firewall and Norton's Firewall- might have clashed, some tell me they shouldn't, that its okay to have 2 firewalls, some say to leave only one, in either case, I can't connect to Yahoo e-mail or directly to Internet Explorer, can to other sites. After talking with 2 HP tech's in India-it tires you, imagine them too, smile. I understand about fast talking at times- except when you're long distance and certain keys and letters need to be typed, takes a while to figure it, I'll call them again today, fingers crossed and knocking on the wood. Here's another test to try. Email your friend a message and mark it 'return reply' request. If your friend clicks on the 'reply' verification and you receive that notice, then the 'send' communication from his end is likely in order and the problem is elsewhere. Mistakes in email addresses (URL) can be subtle and hard to detect. Look for an extra space, a missing space, interchanged adjacent characters, a numeral one for lower case 'l' and vice versa, and case sensitive characters. I'm not sure how shift-space is handled these days, but I know of one very old system that made use of this character to beguile and mislead probers. The ASCII character, shift-space, is a distinct character and different than a plain 'space', yet both characters are displayed as a 'space'. When this is encountered in a code word, the easiest fix is to delete the word and re-enter the correct one rather than to hunt for hidden 'shift-spaces'.

Making up a phone number when creating your email account is not a good idea since they use that number to contact you should there be an attack on your account or if you lost your info and they needed to resend it to you, they would be sending it to a phone number you can not reach to get that info and it could be someones actual phone number and they would be the one that got your critical information. You can instead give an alternate email address that is real where they can send you that information. I had that very thing happen recently with my gmail account, I accessed my account from an unknown, to them, device from a different state and it sent out an alert wanting to know if it was really me or if someone was trying to access my account. It was sent to my other email address that I provided, I was able to simply let them know it was me and it was a device I would be using. Had I provided my phone number they would have put out an automated call or text stating the same thing. There is an option to just skip that page and go on. Not everyone has a cell phone. Not everyone has texting. I believe that you can put in the phone number and request a call not text, then when you go into your account settings you can go in and remove the phone number, if it was set for text that option is not available or that is how it has been in the past for gmail. I set up a new yahoo account not long ago for one of my neighbors and was able to do so with out a cellphone because she does not have a cell phone. Yahoo has however been making so many changes and many are not for the better so it could have changed. So many people have left yahoo due to some of these changes.

Ditto on Hotmail. I have four accounts and they all work pretty good.

I use them all. Have an old email account with AOL (not the browser)and that works fine. Have a few GMail accounts, but really only use them for registering at some shopping or for a website. Never thought about them scanning my mail. I really don't care. Try AOL. It's free and you get free XM Radio with it. I keep AOL on all day just for the free XM Radio.

I use my ISP for my personal stuff.

My primary email has been hotmail for over 10 years, I started out on MSN dial up so had the msn email and hotmail, kept the hotmail and use it daily, I know a lot of people don't care for it but it has been good for me.
I also have gmail which I set up through my thunderbird, and I like it a lot.
Yahoo I have had for years but just never cared much for it. My very first email addy was with juno back when the original juno dial up was the thing, I still have that juno addy but don't use it because it just piles up with spam.
My verizon addy I never use I hate their format.

If you like gmail but just don't like the ads then set it up through thunderbird and use it that way then you never have to see the ads or the actual gmail site. Gmail has the directions on how to do that on their site just look under the settings button, then forwarding Pop/Imap.
