favorite free download

I used to have a disc of site addresses for all kinds of cool programs one could download for free. I misplaced it but that was a few years ago and probably obsolete by now. WhatÂ´s your favorite free download and what do you like about it? (Unfortunately, I have none of my own to share. I do not have internet access at home so only get online an hour or maybe two a week. But IÂ´d love to know whatÂ´s out there.)

wow there are so many in so many categories but I would have to say hands down mine would be firefox browser, I use it on my windows and linux boxes and would be unhappy with out it and all the associated add-ons which I have come to depend on so heavily. Utilizing the portable version on a flash drive lets me have my all my "stuff" on hand no matter where I am, thanks in big part to xmarks (foxmarks) bookmark and profile synchronization.

AVAST antivirus, malwarebytes antimalware, superantispyware, spywareblaster, belarc, secunia inspector, open office, picnik, well the list just goes on and on.

ilmbg, I put most of my bookmarks in folders, then I put the letter "A" in front of the folder name, like Aj's Books, Aj's Crafts, etc.. That way the bookmarks I used often are always on top. Bookmarks are the one thing I don't like about Firefox. I do like the toolbar bookmarks.

Rita" How untrue that statement is, as much as and as well as the MSWin IE/XP FUD works (you bought the FUD after all, eh), it just ain't so....And if you do it right, and use the right software package to do it, removing BOTH OutLook and IE is a simple and very effective way of making your PC faster, stabler, and w/o IE-OL, more secure too..... And it'll have a smaller footprint and memory requirements, and can be set up as you, not Steve Ballmer, wants it to be. Or you can do the delete "manually" too, but it's (to me anyway) a royal pain in the arse....Instructions for doing it right are in abundance.... I ran "it" for on my last (well, it was really the S.O.'s PC, but I grew weary of having to fix something every, well very often.) MSWin PC, and installed it for a friends daughter (and installed the software that she PURCHASED not stole) on a fPC just a few weeks ago. I've been using Skype a lot. Along with our webcams I can see my family members when I talk to them for free using Skype. I use Irfanview a lot also. There are quicker ways but I use it for resizing pictures because I have more control over the final result. You can find lots of information about free downloads for all kinds of purposes at MajorGeeks.com. I have found it a very easy and safe way to download them from the links there also. No looking around for the free version like there is a lot of places.

By the way, I've been afraid of Space Invaders since I was nine years old. See October 30, 1938.

I downloaded a program called Ashampoo Burning Studio to copy music CDs and photos. I think maybe RC had mentioned it here. I want to say thank you! It's really terrific and very user friendly.

cool: google earth, maybe?

If you like old games, you should enjoy the documentary film "The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters". I just heard an interview and it sounds good (about chasing the Donkey Kong world record).

Homebound you do not really need to download and install Google Earth anymore. Using Google maps and selecting the satellite view you get the same deal without cluttering up your hard drive with a large program.

Anyone using Google maps in satellite view can type in an American address then view the address from the road outside. Currently the road view is restricted to U.S addresses only. To do this just drag the little man off the top of the view sizer and drag to where you wish to view
