new oven smells
Comments (4)We haven't done this yet since we haven't moved in, but when our new GE Monogram convection oven was installed the installer said we should run it at the highest temperature possible for at least 30 minutes. Then, he said, let it cool off until it was really cool (overnight) and do it again. According to him this would burn off any manufacturing residue and get rid of that new oven smell. Comments (4)I had the same situation with my Electrolux ovens when they were installed last year. I got all excited about FINALLY having a kitchen I could use, mixed up a batch of cookies, baked them in the oven, and promptly threw them in the trash. They tasted just like plastic. I simply turned the ovens back on (don't remember what temperature, but it was fairly high, I think) and left them for a few hours. The smell went away....See MoreCough, Cough, Gag!! Comments (9)Yes, mine did that too, it was very smelly, I turned on the attic fan and sucked it all out. Then the oven blew a fuse about 2/3 of the way thru the cycle and the oven and clock and timers wouldn't work until it was repaired. We had company that weekend, I was not happy. At least the burners would still work, but I was ticked. After googling it, found out that that wasn't all that rare, but it still made me mad that I had to have a repairman come fix it. Now I know the part number and we can do it ourselves if it happens again. Repairman suggested doing a shorter cycle and pulling it out from the countertops so it won't get TOO TOO hot and overheat and blow another fuse. Don't buy Samsung appliances, that's my new motto. :)...See MoreSelf Cleaning Oven smelling up the house
Comments (6)The oven could have been prettied-up anticipating the sale, which could involve oven cleaners. Can you describe the actual odor you're smelling? As most oven cleaners are based on lye, residues from their use would smell "soapy". If on the other hand the odor reminds of overheated electronics, it may be that the oven is not happy about the self-cleaning cycle and could even get damaged in the process. The normal smell during a self-cleaning cycle should be similar to incinerated toast :-) Anyway, during the procedure, you should run your hood on max and open a window somewhere to help replenish the kitchen with fresh air from outside....See Morewekick
