Mixing Appliance Brands? Wolf/Viking/Asko

I purchased a Asko dishwasher for a great price, and was planning on using Wolf/Kitchen Aid appliances. However, I found a good deal on a Viking Range, and Free-standing Fridge.

I was wondering if it would be odd to not have the matching Viking front on the dishwasher, if everything else was Viking.

I have also heard Viking Dishwashers are Asko? Could you just swap the handle?

We mixed and matched our kitchen appliances for the features. We have Dacor double Millenia double 30" ovens, Bosch high-end dishwasher, Ge profile Artica refrig, DCS four burner with griddle gas range and a SHARP microwave (which some name brands use with their logo and charge a lot more as a result. Same unit). Vent-a-hood ventilation.

Viking started making their own DW's this past year. Some people just slap a Viking badge on whatever to make it match :) You might be able to swap the handle if the doors are compatible, but that's a big if.

Do a search on this forum to learn more about Viking ranges and especially fridges. If you're doing the remodel for yourself, getting the right appliances for you is more important than the deal.

But, yes, you can mix them all. The only people who usually have a whole suite of appliances from one maker are builders who get volume discounts. Most of the makers don't make all kinds of appliances, so they just slap their decor on something made by someone else anyway.

I've had two of those Jenn-Air fridges and zero problems. When we sold our old house the buyers wanted to keep the fridge, and we ended up buying the exact same fridge for the new house. It sounds like a smart idea. They can put together packages with Asko laundry, and also have the DWs to suit that purpose until they have their line functioning. It takes some pressure off of them, getting their own units to market. And they can aim for the high end customer, and use the mid-range models of Asko for those who will spend for an SZ fridge or Wolf range, but not so much a DW. Considering that the much troubled Viking still seems to be outfitting high end developers, it really behooves SZ/W to be able to offer complete suites. That also helps them stop the encroachment of Miele in the same sector. 'Course, my mother absolutely loathes her Asko dishwasher... and the only complaint she had about SubZero was when the first one bit the dust after twenty years. The second one is going on thirty and seems to be doing fine. :)

Absolutely not! Buy what you like or use what you have. I use my appliances until they wear out..currently have a black Kenmore frige, black Kenmore DW, and an almond (with black front) range. They are all old, and if I ever get around to giving my kitchen a face-lift, I think I can justify new SS or white range and frige so they will match but will not worry about matching brands. Before someone takes this the wrong way, for those of you with beautiful, high-end homes and kitchens, that you have worked so hard to create, I would never criticize your nice appliances, high end or low end. I have a couple of family members who, if their washer or dryer goes bad, they toss both pieces to buy a "matching set". And they are not rolling in money either. Without being snarky - just honest - she bought a high-end red set on pedestals and she lives in a dump, the laundry room where she placed it looks like a barn, and you can't get thru her house. Who cares what a washer and dryer looks like if they function?? I need to get out of my bitter mood today :). Tuesday

friedajune, the ice maker in the freezer failed at about the 2 year mark and it was approximately $800 to fix (I was lucky the warranty applied). With the fridge, there is a huge temperature difference between the top shelf and the bottom shelf.... about 12-14 degrees, so when the bottom shelf registers 38 degrees, the top shelf is well below freezing. They replaced everything over the course of 3 months or so and finally they replaced the fridge, but I have exactly the same problem. I'm not sure what my next steps will be. One of the other issues with the old fridge was that produce wasn't keeping very well (as in my Kenmore did a better job). I've only had the new fridge for a couple of weeks, so I'm still monitoring it.

I am all for mixing and matching as long as all the finishes match.

I went with a Miele Dishwasher, Wolf Hood w/ Best Fan, GE Monogram range, and Samsung Fridge all because they were top quality and I got a great discount on all of them. All but the fridge was last years model and two were store displays as well.
