Dreambuilder. Being inside and not in direct sunlight or the elements of Mother Nature, you have a lot of options. It almost the same as if you were selecting a tv for you living room or any other room in the house. It depends how far away you will be sitting from the tv during normal viewing. A good general rule of thumb is to get a tv one third the size of your seating distance. With today's hi def displays, a 2:1 ratio is even possible. If the Tv is too big or you're sitting too close, you will be able to see pixels in the picture being displayed...not a good thing. Example, if the tv will be 10' from the hot tub, then a 40" tv would be the minimum size and a 60" TV would be the biggest size. If the hot tub is 5' from the tv, then a 20"-30" TV would be recommended. Regarding the type of TV, any technology will be fine since you're indoors. Plasma is not as bright as LCD but generally has a better picture and is far better than LCD when viewing from an angle. Plasma's also tend to be more expensive than LCD. LCD tv's are brighter, so if your hot tub room is bright, this may be the better choice. The downside of LCD is the picture will become dimmer if your sitting at an angle to the TV. LCD's are the least expensive technology these days unless you get into cutting edge local dimming edge lit LCD's which carry a premium price tag. Hope this helps.

Everything you describe is exactly as I have been thinking I plan to paint the rest of the built ins White. I have thought about moving the cornice all the way up. It should have been done years ago. But the red sofa may be going to another room along with the chair. My DH has suggested we either buy new leather pieces for this room or we move brown leather from the basement up to this room. We use the red in the kids media room and figure out that space later. We could move the TV to one of those adjustable wall mounts. The slight problem with the brown walls is do I paint everything? Or only the brown on the wall with the built ins or maybe three walls, all the walls move open to other areas. Something to consider. I wish the term Modern did not connote the style in the 70s with plastic, metal and clean lines. Or maybe I am a complete idiot and the term is Modernism and I am getting that confused. I do not like black rod iron, never did and never will. I am searching today for some better tables. As for Naked windows. I love naked veggies, never thought about the windows. I think for this room to come together the windows will be a key to pulling the room together. Ideas so far and feel free to add any more... Option 1: Sell the red and repaint the kitchen. Buy something in brown leather, bag the hideous end tables and put up drapes from ceiling to floor. Repaint the built Ins too. It would anger my oldest daughter as she says I am constantly changing all the rooms in the house I would need to hire a designer on retainer. And that could only happen if my last name were Rockefeller. Rooms I love and maybe I could make my own, but how? Yes, Plants, Trees that is it I can see this could help along with repainting the walls to a possible white color... The rug helps too but I have a similar rug. I think I even saw chairs like these at Marshalls I like what they did with making a corner conversation area. I like the drama on the wall. I might be able to borrow these ideas.. Why does this room work? Could I paint one wall like this? Or is this a bad, bad decor plan? I like these colors but the wing back chair is not me, I wonder if I use more crisp white with navy blue could that be a direction. And the kitchen could be painted the navy blue... would this work with the dark floors?

I usually do not like the 'old world' forced 'age'. The glazed cabinets, rubbed and glazed painted walls to look ye-olde. Especially in new construction. Sayde's kitchen? Gorgeous. Cohesive, beautiful choices. Not at all forced fake. Stunning cabinets. What a nice grout color. No 'kountry kute' decoration, feature tile thing behind and above stovetop. Just kind of perfect, is't it? Many different qualities in subway tile. I have some samples somewhere from a past project. One of the super cheap ones had a slightly varied surface that was lovely. Another one looked like plastic and had a blue tint to it. Just get some samples and mock up a small section. Test your grout choice. See how it looks in natural light. And make sure all your boxes have the same batch #. Some crackle looks strange, some glazes are almost transparent. If one choice seems 'crafty' to you, try another.

I hope your project makes you feel better about your home. I am soooo excited for you. Out with the old dark dang walls and in with a burst of color and feel good feelings when you walk in the room. Personally I can't stand all white rooms nor all dark wood walls although in some houses they look fine [just not in my house]. DON'T WORRY.... BE HAPPY When you put primer on the wall you think unless the primer looks perfect like paint the succeding coats will not look right but that is not the case. The purpose of primer is to make paint stick better, to get even color, and to seal the surface you are painting. Here are some more tips for using primer: After filling and sanding holes spot prime first. The roll over that with a coat of primer. One coat of primer is fine if there are no heavy stains (heavy stains require 2 coats) Dry time is 1 hour for most primers. I prefer Bullseye primer but Kilz works good too. You should paint no more than 4 hours after priming. If you wait longer than that you might have to prime again because the paint might not stick! As for your runs sand them down with fine grit sandpaper. Also for anyone who is starting this project I forgot to also mention to wash the walls down before priming. You are not washing them to get all the stains off because primer will cover that but you are doing it to get oils and such off the surface. Sometimes I assume people know to do this but it is not the case. I use a solution of TSP. Judy please post pics of your before and after pictures of your project!
