Fabric sconce shade...has anyone used one in a bathroom?
Comments (3)My only concern with a fabric sconce is if you use aerosol hair products dust will adhere to the fabric and make them look shabby rather quickly. Obviously people put fabric in bathrooms - but most of it is easily washable or dry cleanable like a shower curtain or window treatment. Even in the best locations, lampshades are a bugger to clean properly. It looks like that is not a shade that would be easily replaced size wise. We are planning to use a chandelier with cream drum shades in our shower area, but those won't be exposed to hairspray and they are easily replaced if they get shabby looking....See MoreHas anyone seen this bladeless ceiling fan?
Comments (26)The fans got delivered in December, they were packed well and had all the extras needed for installation on my false ceiling (Had to pay extra for the false ceiling kit, which I didnt like). The fans look very nice installed and give out a gentle airflow like a natural breeze. The installation for the first fan took over 4 hours (not the fan manufacturers fault but my own since the guy installing had never installed anything like this and was petrified of doing this project). The other 3 took about 45 minutes each. I was disappointed that they are no longer doing the one with the light at least in India and that the remote controller was fairly basic and does not look anything like what they had on the site. The Fan does not have the app feature that they said it would have and cannot be yet controlled by an app (no app in iOS store yet), it may still be capable of running through an app. Other than that if you have a modern house or building one to provision these in at the start of the build will make installation a breeze (see what I did there!). Unfortunately these were so delayed that my ceilings were already done and a hole needed to be cut in the false ceiling. The holes dont show once the fan is installed so no need to be concerned about having a hole in the ceiling. Even though they have a reverse function on the fan for winters I havent started to use these yet. I did test them though with continuous running for 24 hours. What that did was levelled the fan nicely, earlier when it was installed there was a very very slight wobble which went away after sometime of running. You will need perfectly level ceilings which I didnt have so I used corrugated cardboard between ceiling and ceiling brackets to get it zero zero. I love the way these look and feel and will recommend to everyone to give these a try. Try to demo these before you buy as people used to the airflow of a conventional fan might not like them. One thing to note is that they would not work well in large room and would require two units for proper ventilation. I mean a room over 25 feet by 25 feet. They need walls for moving the air so a large room would not work. Attaching a few pictures....See MoreRecommendation for a sleek looking exhaust fan/light combo?
Comments (5)PS My GC's electrician was here today (he is very experienced, does lots of high end homes around here - which includes MCM). He said he has the Fantech 4" fan grill/light combo and loves it. Prefers it to the Panasonic WhisperRecessed - even though he admits he doesn't have it - because the motor on the Fantech installs away from the ceiling, so no chance of vibration (and thus additional noise). That all said, reviews say the Pansonic is very quiet too (and, well, some white noise in a bathroom can be good!), and I think someone going for your aesthetic should investigate the Panasonic b/c it sounds like (but I'm not sure) the placement and adjustability of the light bulb in it might work better for you - sounds like from their website that it can be recessed far up casting a different area of light. Something like that. HTH!...See MoreHas anyone ever used the ventahood TLH style of liner insert?
Comments (12)[In parts due to some issue with Houzz or me] First, the VaH " magic multiplying" factor has been addressed here multiple times. En brief, blowers have what is called a fan curve (see figure). In free air, the flow rate is higher than when restricted by ducting, lack of make-up air (MUA), and, where present baffle of mesh filters. Because the VaH "Magic Lung" versions of their hood product lines lack filters, the hood restrictions are less. However, ducting and MUA losses are still present and care has to be taken to account for these when determining the actual flow rate that can be achieved. The Magic Lung squirrel-cage blowers have a shallow fan curve, and can be significantly restricted by additional pressure loss elements of the kitchen ventilation system. Conventional blowers rated for 450 CFM (for example) in free air (zero static pressure) can usually achieve 300 CFM with all of the pressure loss elements I listed. The VaH hood/blower assembly achieves 300 CFM only when hanging in free air....See Morebusybee3
