I've been running AVG Free for years on XP, no problem. Yesterday I installed MalwareBytes and this morning AVG loaded but didn't run. Actually, neither did MalwareBytes. I uninstalled MalwareBytes, rebooted and lo and behold, AVG works now just like it used to. Conclusion: MalwareBytes is a pile of donkey's doo doos. I don't care how good it may be at removing malware if it conflicts with other programs. Buh-bye MalwareBytes!

I removed MSE moving to Avira after MS declared their own product was less than successful, there was the option to remove the Ask toolbar during the install process. The offer to go pro pops up about twice a week in the lower right corner but I can cope with that, after all it is free. Can't remember if that was the normal install or whether there was the option to use the custom install, I always use the custom to see what I might leave off. I installed Avast for a friend and if I remember correctly there were about a dozen amazing offers I had to decline before the install process completed.

One of the safest places to download genuine software with no unwanted installers or toolbars is Filehippo. e,g, Search for "Filehippo free AVG 2015 32 bit" or 64bit. The required download button is the top right green box that has the filename on it so you can double check it is the correct version. This applies to all free software. What? I can't edit/improve my original post? Dude.... OK, well, here are those details I was going to add Installer is high-volume, been around a long time, reputable Pricing is for a vinyl retrofit. As usual, they never give the homeowner too many details, but what I gleaned from badgering them is that they want to see the existing steel frames, still waterproofed, etc, and nail to those, but, again, like usual they keep the customer in the dark about most of the details until you ask.* Again, there is some nuance to what I'm asking, and I fear that nuance is too much for the interwebs. I'm not asking "is this a good price" or "is this worth it". For those, as WoW pointed out, the details are important. I'm saying "what have other paid, is this a sane quote". If I'm in the middle of the spread, I'm happy. If everyone else is paying more for these windows, I'm really happy. If several people say they got these installed by "Chuck in a truck" for $700 a window, and I'm at ~$800, then I would probably accept this pricing. But if several people say they got these installed for $500-600, regardless of installer, I'm not happy and need to have a chat with my installer. Does this make sense? * (But I don't know what to ask! If I knew what to ask, I wouldn't need to ask!!!)
