My parents have a G2142 and I have on older G2170 so not a direct comparison, but here's my insight on Miele dishwashers in Canada. Both of our dishwashers perform equally. Both are very quiet and do a good job of getting dishes clean. Detergent choice is key. Your detergent must be matched to your water quality, trial and error works best here. The racking system in a Miele takes a different mindset. Our dishwasher holds at least 50% more than our old GE. We see significant energy and water savings from that feature alone. My experience with Miele service in Canada has been consistently terrible. Our washer and dryer has been a 9-month nightmare. Our dishwasher has not needed service, and if it ever does, I will do everything possible to avoid Miele service. This includes throwing the dishwasher out and buying another one. If you ever do need service from Miele, be prepared for them to tell you nothing is wrong with your dishwasher. Miele seems to be quite proud of it's low warranty claim history. They achieve that low claim frequency by simply denying that there is anything wrong with the machine. When our brand new dryer put out it's first load of still wet laundry, after a 20 minute wait on hold Miele's non-english speaking call-center employee simply told us that their machines are "excellent" and that nothing was wrong. Consider Miele's warranty to be non-existent. I cannot stress enough how poor Miele's service has been for us. As for professional installation, unless you're a fairly advanced DIYer, I would seriously consider it. Our installations (both mine and my parents) required significant plumbing and electrical re-works.

Miele is made by Germans so it tells you how much time it will take. :) My Optima seems to adjust the time based on how long it took previously to do certain tasks. Other than heating time I'm not sure how it could determine the length of time to apply to its tasks, so maybe this is heating variable only. Using the turbo mode will reduce the time it expends washing. kas

I had a dear friend that was renting a small Condo, She said "Someday I want to live where I have a window over the sink and enjoy the view---fortunately We were able to help her as our tenants moved out of one of our townhouses we rent--that had such a view , and I rented it to her for 14 years , until She passed away from Lung Cancer.So I guess to many people a kitchen with a view is important? I loved this dishwasher, truly loved it. My dishes literally sparkled, but January of this year I needed to replace the WPS (water protection system) to the cost of $200, that's the part price and my husband installed it. Now its June and this morning I woke up to a F70 fault code. We dragged the dishwasher out, drained and removed the bottom pan then ever so carefully, balanced between my four kitchen chairs. Turned the machine on and looked to see where the water was leaking. The water is leaking from the drain hole in the circulation pump. I called Miele to see what the part would cost. Obviously, they only sell the entire unit to the price of $630, but since I would plan to install it myself, a 30 percent discount, would make it cost $505, which includes shipping. The machine is 6 years old. I paid over $2300 for it. After 6 years I think it would be foolish to invest another $500. Six months from now, something else could go wrong. I think it is time for me to part with Miele :l As much as this pains me to say. Any suggestions on what which brand I might be somewhat happy? Bosch or Kitchenaid perhaps?
