To borrow (and probably mangle) snidely's analogy: using a seperate tool for every job is like driving a model A. You have to shift the gears, adjust the spark, back up the steepest hills. (No fuel pump) A more modern car has cruise control, automatic transmission, heated seats, GPS that'll pick your route, maybe even adjust based on traffic. You feel a little less in control, but you don't have to think about all that. I personally like AVG Free antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall, and Malwarebytes anti-malware. It is possible that you move the mouse a little bit downwards while clicking the tab and that can cause the tab to get detached and opened in a new window. Firefox 3.5 versions and later have a feature called tear-off tabs. You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window. You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.
