Mouse problems

I have a new wireless mouse, did the same thing with the old mouse. The pointer jumps all over the page and it is impossible to control. I have done everything I know how to fix it. I have slowed down the mouse , etc. Why is it doing this? I cannot use the computer because you cannot control the darn thing. Thanks, pk

No did not help, took me couple min. to just get the mouse into this box. anyone else??? seems like it starts to do this after or during playing a game??? pk

Can you detect a click from the solenoid below the carb when you turn the key to on? If not, check for another chewed wire and a blown fuse. Has the machine been run at all this spring? If you unhook the kill wire will it run? Was the engine run w/ the mouse nest?

Assuming you have Xp try clicking Start click Control panel click the mouse control (forget the name right now) Then use the new window to check out your settings for the mouse. Failing that visit the web site of the manufacturer and look for updated drivers, then as they are loaded they might well rectify the issue for you. As it seems to be a laser mouse I think it unlikely cat hair is the issue. Mine has no opening on the underside for any foreign objects to get inside.

Thank You Zep I had figured that it was a driver problem but 'Device Manager' claims that the driver is the latest and is working correctly. I still believe that it is either a dll or other driver issue so .. "experiment time"! lol I have no idea where the disk is so I am going to try downloading from Microsoft's site. JM

I suppose there could be an interference problem. I don't know the frequency band that your mouse uses, but did the problem start after you added a piece of electronic gear that uses electromagnetic waves, say a new cell phone, a portable house phone with base station, or a new server for internet use? Maybe a nearby neighbor has added a boost to his modem/server. Perchance do you have blue-tooth equipment running? Check your mouse instructions pamphlet. Does it have a choice of frequencies on which to operate? If so, try changing channels.

Is this a laptop by chance? If so turn off the touch pad that can happen.

We have some problems with a wireless keyboard and Wii even when the Wii is not doing anything. It has been awhile I have forgotten details.

I'd consider getting a wired USB mouse.

Are you using your mouse on a shiny surface? Have encountered completely erratic behavior for some mice that way. Put a piece of paper underneath and see if it stabilizes.
Are the drivers completely up to date?
Have you tried another port if it's usb?
Finally, is it connected usb and ps/2? Try only usb.
Those are some of the issues I encounter regularly with wireless.

You may be confusing a wireless problem with an optical problem. A mouse sensor does not work well (stable) on some materials. And some lights can even pass through the mouse case to confuse the optical sensor.

That's a very good point. It would be good to hear what the OP is using for the surface the mouse is on. I have mainly had problems with wireless laser mice when I try them on certain surfaces like a glass table top. As soon as I remember to put something down, even a piece of paper, the tracking problem goes away.
