Yes, you buy the system which comes with the basic Wii game, then buy any additional games and accessories that you want. We have a Wii system and the whole family really enjoys it - Guitar Hero, Sports, etc. We don't have Wii Fit (yet) but that will probbly be the next purchase. I also HIGHLY recommend BoomBlox which was created by Stephen Spielberg for the Wii system. Great game for all ages.

I think it comes with only 1 controller, so depending on how into it you get, you will want to bu at least 1 more controller for some of the 2 player games.

It is the most adult friendly of all the game systems (IMHO) and I do not think there are any special TV requirements. We move our around (we have Wii Bars on all the TVs in the house) and it works just as well on the 10 year old 36" in the kids play room as it does on the new flashy flatscreen in the family room.

I bet you will both love it!

My daughter bought the Wii and the Wii fit but her son chewed the on the hand remotes. That kid destroys nearly everything he touches. If it was my electronics stuff he wouldn't touch it with out supervision. She plays pool, bowling and other games like Big Game hunting. Kid plays road racing games.
I do not touch the machine or the remotes. I have no interest in playing it.

My DS purchased Wii plus a few extra games for the family's main Christmas present this year. They insisted I try bowling on Christmas Day. Frankly, I felt stupid standing there pretending to be bowling. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those things that they use/enjoy for a few weeks, quickly tire of it, & when it's not used anymore it'll end up in the garage sale pile.

We bought a Wii about a year ago and really have enjoyed it. So far we have liked the Tiger Woods Golf game the best and just got the '09 version if that, just haven't had time to give it a try yet. Wii Fit is something I am planning on checking into.

Just last night we had company over that was asking about the Wii, so we showed them how to play and they loved it. A quick check on the computer showed pricing to be something you really want to investigate. Walmart has all the Wii goodies so you might want to just use their site to start your investigation.....

I bought the family a Wii for Christmas and the best price I could find was a bundled set at Game Stop. The sales person recommended the Wii Play (which we all like) because it comes with an extra remote at not much more of a price than the remote itself and you will want 2 remotes. I like it as it is helping me trying to get my "game" also, as a therapist recommended it. Wii fit is definitely on my list. I got the Rock Band, and I cannot figure out why, I guess because Aleksi is interested in guitar, but I haven't been brave enough to set it up yet.

I've never tried one, nor a Nintendo 64 or X box, Atari etc etc down thru the decades. NO interest whatsoever. To be truthful I did by a Pong back in the mid 70's and returned it pronto. Somebody bought me a Gameboy with tetris and that was ok but I got bored with it and put it away. Now I hear all this raving about Wii and people pretending to play instruments?
I'd rather play a real piano and organ/keyboard than a fake one, or guitar if that's what interested me..
Strange thing is nobody loves gadgets etc more than me but video games just register a big fat zero in my brain why I don't know.

I really wanted one really badly for some time now. Adult friends have it and we play when we get together-its very interactive.
I finally just broke down and got one and gave it to the family at Christmas-they were shocked that "I" went ahead and got it LOL!!
I did a little leg work and spoke to lots of wii players and sales associates only to finally buy one at Best Buy.
I did go for the bundle pack with included the wii play (third controller) and also included a fouth controller and a discount on the upgrade package which makes it work with the new games which are about to come out.
Yea we could download the upgrade here at home but everyone said it would take about 10 hours or more (no kidding) on my super slow old computer.
Geek squad did it for us in about an hour and it was ready to go on Christmas morning.

Best buy also has a few different games on sale each week so you just have to watch.
I wanted the mlb baseball game but it was out the day I was there.

I am not a big video game fan...just would rather leave it to the kids but this one really got my attention.

The bowling was cool...I mean everyone looks silly bowling so it puts everyone on the same even level.

I also really enjoyed making a slideshow. I made one and had it playing in the backround of our New Years day Gathering.

I have so much to learn about it yet and will follow this thread to see what else I can learn!!

My grandnephews have Wii and I lopve it. Last year we played bowling and I was really good at it. Yeah, I did feel silly (in a good way) going thorugh the motions of bowling in the living room. This year they have Wii Music (I think that's waht it's called) and we were in stitches playing in on New Year's Eve. My GN's made my Mii and when it go to the part where you could make Mii fatter or thinner i said "you better not!"

I've toyed with the idea of getting one for myself, expecially the Fit, but I have a feeling I'd get tired of it quickly. I have enjoyed everything from Pong to Atari, and then we all outgrew them. I used to play a game called Mad Bomber all day while the kids were at school. I'd hear them opening the gate and I'd have to turn it off fast so they didn't catch me doing what I told them not to do. I loved Frogger, too.

Now I play Tetris on my cell phone when I have a long wait for something.

I bought a WII for Christmas along with the WII fit. The prices here are the same for the initial set up no matter where you buy it.
I have never had any video games before and don't have kids so never had much exposure to them.

I have had a lot of fun with it. I bought an extra remote for my husband and we have been playing tennis and bowling and golf together. My plan is to get my husband interested enough in tennis we can play it for real when the weather warms up.

The WII fit has a lot of conditioning games which are fun.
I don't have anything to compare it to but at times it seems sorta slow and repetitious and I were it were easier to fast forward through some spots.

On the whole I like it and glad I bought it.

We bought one for Sara for Christmas. It is perfect for her as most of the games only require one hand to control. The Wii Fit is a great compliment to her physio.

Although we got this for her because of her special needs, we all had a blast using it at Christmas. So much so that I want one for us!

We've had Wii for awhile now - and got Wiifit for Christmas. Will loves it - it works on your balance and is a very nice body-awareness type thing. I haven't had too much time to check it out much yet - but it looks pretty neat. You can also use the balance board that comes with Wii Fit for snowboarding games (fun!) and Wii music - another fun and worthwhile game.

The basic Wii is a pretty non-negotiable $250 - and if I recall the Wii Fit was around $90...?

We also got Rock Band for Christmas - what a riot! I have so many Christmas pics of all family members jamming on the guitar, playing drums or singing their hearts out - LOL.

We also purchased a Wii for Scott's parents this year. We hope to get his mom Wii Fit for her birthday.

I've been thinking about getting one for hubby ( he needs some kind of exercise ) and on the TV show Cash Cab one of the questions was "what game messed up some TV's" and the answer was Wii... I have not been able to find out any more on the subject ( other than people tossing the controller at the TV )... And, we really need to buy a new TV ( sound is going on this one ) but I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on a TV only to have it messed up by a $300. plus game...

Hi! We got a Wii for my son 2 years ago; it was really hard to find them then! He and my husband love it, I actually also love it and I'm not much of a game player. I actually bowled a 240 on Wii bowling once, so the controls are obviously not perfect, the best I've bowled in real life is 180. We got my son a PS3 for Christmas so he is leaving the Wii at home and taking the PS3 back to his dorm. I asked for Wii fit for my birthday, also gave my husband a list of interesting games that I would like: Wii music, Wii Cheer (yes, I did want to be a cheerleader), Wii Ski, Jillian Michael's fitness challenge, Shaun white snowboarding, Dance Dance Revolution, and American Idol. Since it's my birthday today, I'll get to see what games I get in about 4 hours. Yeah! I know I'm getting the Wii fit, it was really hard to find and getting it required driving 17 miles out of the way to get around some bad flooding we had here 2 weeks ago. I'll let you know how the Wii fit is after I try it tomorrow, my son is going to show me how to set it up and work it.

I don't think you need to worry about the TV though. We have a 52" rear projection LCD and there is no problem with it. We got the TV before the Wii and we have not had any problem with images burning into the screen. Just remember to switch back to the TV when you are not using the game, although my son has on occasion left a game paused for a couple hours and forgot to switch the input back to the TV and it was still fine.

I don't know much about them. My sister got one for her kids this Christmas and it was the biggest hit in years. I don't remember the last time the whole family sat around really involved with what the kids were playing with. We cheered the kids as they figured it out and laughed at the adults silly enough to try.

I did get the Wii Fit from my husband, as well as Wii Cheer, Wii Music, and Jillian Michaels Fitness Challenge. Wii Music and Fitness Challenge use the balance board from the Wii fit. Once I have a chance to try them out (tomorrow) I'll let you know what I think.

yeah, Rita - I think that any problems with messing up the tv refers to those incidents where someone let go of the remote. I've not heard of them hurting TV's. And the newer remotes have a locking mechanism on the strap that is pretty secure.

The Wii Bar is the little bar that sits either in front of or on top of the TV that detects your movements.

Joanne, you will like WiiFit. It keeps track of lots of stuff! And it's fun to watch other people hula hoop - LOL!

I'll throw in here that Wii is also capable of playing Nintendo Gamecube games. We bought a used gamecube controller - and the Gamecube games - you can often find pretty cheap. A great game is Donkey Konga - with bongo drums. Really fun!

I did some more of Wii fit last night. Pretty fun, but it also lets you enter in other workout information and you get "credit" for it. Then it keeps track of everything. The more you do certain activities and the better you get, the more "other" new activities are opened up.

There is step aerobics - so far, two levels - easy and advanced - that's fun. Will earned enough on one of them to get this punching bag game and he did it last night until his arms were sore!

Hi! I have been using the Wii fit each day (3 days since I got it). It is soooo much fun! I am totally hooked. I will try to give you more details tomorrow since it is bedtime here, but I highly recomend it. The yoga poses are awesome. I have been doing yoga off and on for a number of years and there are some poses (like the worrior pose) that just seemed silly to me, they didn't really seem to do anything. Now I know that's because I was not doing the pose correctly, I did not have enough weight on the front leg. The Wii fit tracks this for you, as soon as I had my weight properly distributed I could feel the strech! Yeah! I haven't even tried any of my other "games" yet!
