One More Lap Top Question

I have a question about the lap top battery. I really don't like leaving the lap top plugged in all the top. I am sure if I were to run the battery down this would not be good either.

Is there a way to turn the computer off and not drain the battery?

The reason for not keeping it plugged in is this is I tend to get a lot of power outages or power spikes. Not so much in spring or summer. I bought this computer for a road trip and after the trip may only use once a week when I want to download or upload a file using WI FI. Here in the country my only option is dial up.

What do you suggest?

I leave both of mine plugged in all the time. You might want to check into a good surge protector so you dont have to unplug or worry about it.
Once every other month or so, I unplug it and let the battery drain to about 10% remaining then plug it back in to fully charge.
PS. You could have just tacked this question on the bottom of your original post. Wouldnt have hurted and kept everything together

Most laptop batteries will store power for a very long time. Lithium Ion batteries in general loose 5 to 10% of charge per month.

I've never been a big fan of topping bamboo, and avoid doing it unless the plant is really in a bad way. I'm not convinced that topping causes significant rhizome growth that wouldn't occur naturally, and the plant looks butchered. I know that topping is supposed to bring the leaf mass back into balance with the rhizome mass of a new division, but I don't believe this is always necessary. I've made divisions without topping and have even had new shoots come up shortly thereafter. For me, the key is getting the biggest rootball I can. As long as you don't have to do the lifting and toting then cost becomes the primary consideration. (For most of us it is the back. ;) So if you can afford it then Choice 1 may be the best after all. As I said above I'd go with Choice 2 because it HAS to be much cheaper and it is likely a good base to start with but there is no way to know what may need to be added because so many things are sold labeled as "topsoil" - some are ok and some are crap. So many things are sold as "mulch" and the same rules apply. As to manure - has it been composted? Most likely so. Fill the bed with Choice 2 and then add several bags of the compost from Lowes, 1 bale of the peat, and a good dose of slow-release fertilizer all mixed in well and you should be ok for the first year. More compost will be needed each year after. Without seeing the stuff that's the best I can do but keep in mind that landscapers are always trying to sell you fancy expensive mixes you don't need so don't buy into everything he says. ;) Dave

Depends I guess on the car/color and breezes, but some trunks get mighty hot here in florida's sun. Just read arizona for kids safefty,, cars interior rises 45F over ambient in one hour, and another site about the same. You might want to look at the specifications for laptop temperature ranges,, both opperation and storage. Wouldnt want to run it when its really too hot from sitting in the truck all day. IBM technote; Note: Be aware that extreme temperature ranges within the trunk/vehicle can damage laptops. My toshiba's spec shows storage max is 149F/65C, opperation max ambient temp 95F/35C

I'll clarify... To me, the Dacor gliderack is a bit difficult to relocate, but perfectly stable and certainly strong enough for whatever heavy pot is being used. As mcmann states, the racks are fine in the extended position. I did have a few small scratches/chips in the porcelain on the Dacor in the front upper corner edges (about where the door's woven wire gasket contacts the perimeter of the oven cavity). I reported on this in another thread and how I touched it up with "Porc-a-fix" for $6. I forgot about this manufacturing defect until rhome mentioned her porcelain quality worries. Of course, it's irrelevant as far as cooking is concerned. We really do like our Dacor. But know that we got a 76% discount buying the display model. The only problem was that our great bargain on the oven made us want to get new appliances all around. So in the end we spent considerably more.

What is the purpose of allowing the battery to drain to 10%? A novel idea I do have a surge protector.

Its just a matter of "working" the battery. Draining the charge and then building it back up. I helps promote longer battery life. I wouldnt let it go to zero as it might not accept a charge

If you are going to have it plugged in to AC all the time at home, I would fully charge the battery and take it out and store in a cool, dry place. My original battery stayed in the computer all the time and I used it plugged in most of the time. Didn't take long for the battery to give up the ghost because it was contantly being recharged. A battery is good for only a certain number of charges. So I bought a much larger capacity replacement battery, use it sometimes, and will be using it when we travel. Otherwise, here at home, I take it out of the computer and store it in the box it was shipped in. These instructions were on the website of the vendor where I bought the battery.
