With the popup to scan now... hard to get rid of

Then when I got the the movie download,
had to register, simple give email address and a login password ..... then screen two wanted personal address.. etc... to sign up for as low as 99 cent movies.
Thans when I closed everything and started ccleaner and then security essentials full scan - which will run for a while now.

That's the kind of thing I was afraid of. Figured there might a catch of some sort. Robby doesn't think he has any problem from the site. I think I'll ask him if he had to register like you did. I'm not giving anyone any personal info. Mlou

that is very bad that means the site itself is infected and is spreading the rogue fake antivirus infections which are very very hard to clean up and many contain rootkits.
Anytime you see one of those warnings pop up with an alert that says your pc is infected do NOT click on anything on the screen, doing so will be clicking to allow it to install even the red x button or close button are actually linked to install buttons, always either do a control alt delete and shut down your browser by ending task on it or simply hit the shut down button on the start menu and close the pc. If you do anything else you will likely be infected.

Malwarebytes free will usually clean part of those infections but not all of it, which takes using one of the support forums for help cleaning the rest.

I would stay far far away from that site.

I don't take my chances with sites like that. I only download movies that are legal to download. That means that I don't get much that is current, but I get a lot of older movies for free. I like to use The Internet Archive for free movies, books and music because they only have legitimately legal downloads.

My daughter recently clicked on a message that looked like a notice from her antivirus software, but wasn't. It took me almost a full day to clean her PC.

Interesting as I was just listening to a local computer help radio program last night. The topic of dangers when movie downloading came up. It appears the rogue sites are ever expanding with malicious intent.

Also, it was reported the video industry is now leaking to the news media that certain Hollywood distributors are beginning to release product with built in computer-activated coding which when fraudulently downloaded will deposit code on the system preventing/blocking the use of on-board multi-media applications. The only claimed remedy is to clear the H/D and start from scratch.

DA, are you sure about that? It seems to me that would open them up to many, many lawsuits.

It was what was reported. It raised my eyebrow too. However, the right to protect against copyright infringement is wide and fluid. I can only guess that if the report is exactly true the industry position would be that.

I just dropped in to browse and lurk a minute and ended up installing the malware program on the laptop and will soon install it on the desktop too. Thanks for recommending it.
