Comments (7)detroit burb, your question brings up a really good topic. Buying on line vs shopping locally and supporting the local economy. I own a kitchen & bath showroom and am an ardent supporter of local small businesses, but I have to confess there are occasions when my local plumbing wholesaler can't come close to plumbing fixture prices I can get on line. The benefits to the local economy from spending your hard earned dollars locally are tremendous and well documented, but you also have to consider your budget. You decided that it was not worth paying 40% more to keep your business local. I probably would have made the same decision, though before I went that route I would have shopped around for another local source with a better price. In addition to keeping the money locally, and collecting sales taxes that support local government, the local retailer offers the benefit of having a showroom to look at the products and informed sales people with whom you can talk face to face and should something go wrong you have a local place to resolve the issue. But those things come at a cost, they have more overhead and they are not buying in the same quantities as the big on line retailer. And of course the local retailer is part of the local community, I'm pretty sure that homeproductstogo.com is not going to sponsor your kids soccer team or make a donation to keep the arts alive in your community. This is a discussion that we all need to have with ourselves when we are considering an online purchase ve a local purchase....See MoreFaucets at plumbing store vs. big box
Comments (11)I would not discourage people from ordering on line because that is already happening on a very large scale so by your trying to hold back the tide and buy local, it will not make much difference. But.. from what I read (somewhere on Gardenweb I think), if the website you purchase from online is not an "authorized dealer", Moen or whatever brand you've chosen can choose not to backup your warranty. When I was shopping for a Toto brand toilet, I purchased from Homeclick.com which stated on the toto toilet page in a very clear spot that it was an "authorized dealer" of Toto. I would recommend you check. Let us know if you find out Amazon is authorized. If Amazon is not an authorized dealer of Moen, I suspect you could still find pretty good deals elsewhere on the web such as faucetdirect.com efaucets.com qualityhardware.com, etc. from places that ARE authorized retailers, just be sure to check (though Amazon has an awesome 30 day return policy but beyond that, not so good.)...See MoreHas anyone bought sinks/faucets online??? Comments (17)OK> So, I'm reading this post due to a recent experience with the plumber my GC is using for our renovation. I got a babysitter to watch my toddler so I could go look at fixtures at their showroom with my baby. So, I get there and they don't have many of the nicer brands on display- they want to show me everything in a catalog!! Well, thank you but I can do that at home. So, fine- I briefly look at the catalog and pick a few things to get prices. They gave me some pricing and I left. So- wouldn't you want to see products in person if you plan to invest nearly $2000 on them?? I dragged my two small children to another local plumbing outfit to see the higher end stuff I got quoted for at the previous place. The prices were more than $500 different!!! I mean to do I have stupid written on my head b/c I have a newborn? Do they just think I don't have time to research and will just take their price?? This mother has an MBA thank you very much. Fine. So I talked to my contractor and he said to approach them on the issue. I did. They claim their product is better quality and that you can get the same things from other dealers but they aren't as heavy... blah blah blah. That may be true for some Kohler fixtures, but not Rohl!!! And I don't even believe them at that. For the amount of money saved I can buy a whole new fixture in a few years if I decide to change it or it goes bad!! Can someone please tell me if these people are just jerking around with me?? I thought about how they may try to pad the rest of the bill if they adjust the fixture prices, so I'm not really sure what to do with this mess. This is why I do NOT trust vendors like this- b/c of dishonest people who try to make excuses for their ridiculous prices....See Morekarbon faucet online or from home depot vs. plumbing supply
Comments (6)I have the Stages 45 sink with a single Delta Leland stainless faucet. I cannot see the use for 2 faucets in the Stages sink. The pull-down feature of the Leland allows me to reach all areas of the sink easily, it's especially good for cleaning the sink and rinsing the cleanser from the shallow area. I've read more than once that the quality control on the faucets sold at the big box stores can be sketchy, as in they aren't inspected at the factory. I bought all my faucets online and have had zero problems in 18 months. The Karbon looks nice in videos, but be sure and see one in person at a Kohler showroom before you make a decision....See Morekitchenkrazed09
