Please walk me through Audacity!

I would like to use this program for downloading music, and it says that for $10/month I can get all the downloads I want. I have read all of the instructions but still can't figure out how to download!

Can anyone guide me with baby-steps through this? Thanks!

I've been using Audacity for years and I've never heard of it downloading anything or charging for anything. If you play a song you can record it with Audacity. It records and edits sound files. I may be missing something but I don't know where. Where are you seeing this information about downloading?

I am confused too because Audacity is an open source project and it is free.

If the files on the Maxtor were put there by a Backup utility then they can only be Restored by the same utility. As Mikie said, this is doable but involved. Import / Export is normally the easiest, 'assuming' your email client supports that, otherwise you should be able to cut and paste. With the Maxtor on the XP machine it becomes the Destination Drive for the Export or Cut files. Once that is done, hook it to the Vista machine and it becomes the Source Drive for the info. No problem. Sorry for the delay again; I haven't been logging on here much lately. To answer your questions, it is possible that the box by the antenna is powered and, therefore, amplifies the signal. Whether it amplifies or is just a hub doesn't matter hugely at the moment. Separate coax to each room is what you want, so that's good. So you have a wire in the wall that you then want to route to all these devices. The VCR is "passive" and I'm pretty sure the DVDR is, as well -- that is, they will route an antenna signal even if they're not switched on. So I would route the coax from the wall to the antenna-in on the VCR or DVDR. From there, you have some options. You could run another coax cable from the antenna-out on whichever device you connected in the last step to the other device and then from that device to the TV's antenna-in. That will provide signal to all three devices. As for playback, some depends on your TV. Can it handle two video sources at the same time? They may be labeled "VIDEO 1" and "VIDEO 2" or "VCR" and "DVD" or even "AUX1" and "AUX2". Unless it's a very old TV, you have at least one of these connections. If you don't, there are fairly-inexpensive boxes you can buy which will handle multiple video inputs and let you switch among them to feed the TV (for example, GE makes one you probably could buy at Target or such). Assuming your TV is new enough and "good" enough to have two video inputs, you can run cables from the VCR and DVDR to the TV and manage which one you watch from the TV. The most typical connections will be "RCA component" cables (usually three per device: a yellow jack for video and white & red jacks for stereo audio). I hope that helps. It's not that uncommon around here (and probably most places). I can't tell you how many of the houses that I went into that probably had beautiful millwork that had been painted a white or cream. In particular the tudors and craftsman type houses. Considering one of my husband's objections to Tudor houses was that they felt "dark" and their rooms are "choppy", I think many feel the same. Shame really, probably the wrong person in the wrong house. Personally I find it a bit cozy with all the dark woodwork. Take the room above for intance....that is a pretty large room, but I still find it a cozy. I don't think it would feel like that if the woodwork had been painted. Case in point...house nearby that somebody has really tried to contemporize. My husband would love it. I actually like it to, but am more drawn to the first one I posted. I use it to make ringtones for my phones and as far as I know it's not a downloading program you pay for. Mary

Bob, I can't even find how to play much less download songs! I downloaded the program and when I open it from my desktop it is a complicated looking thing that looks like a soundboard with lots of options.

As for the $10, I can't find that now. It was there before I downloaded it, it never asked for payment, but it downloaded this screen that I can't figure out.

Raven, I read all those links, but none say that I can download music. Is Audacity maybe not what I am looking for? I want a program that I can legally pay a price to download as many songs as I want. I thought that Audacity was what I needed, but maybe not.

Audicity doenst download music. It records music you might hear on your pc or music that you download if you want to duplicate it so you can edit it or save in another format.

Plays the music file that you load into it but its really not meant to be a music player. Its a sound file editor that records too.

Might want to look at this site link for downloading music mostly for free ....

use its search function, right click the download link.. always scan for virus from sites like this, never know who uploaded what...

Well if you want to make ringtones with it it's very easy and I have a simple step by step tutorial I made myself on how to do it. If I can make them anyone can. Could it be on the site or something your got an add for something elese to download music? Mary

If you want to download music for free, try Bearshare. I have been using it for quite a while snd really enjoy listening to music that I like.
