I fell in love with this Santa painting at HL. I HAD to buy it and when I did.... 50% off. Score!! The clerk told me it was the last one, and I said "of how many??" She said the last one of 50!! I guess I wasn't the only one who loved it. The plaque at the bottom says "I do believe."

There was a poem on the back so I copied it, framed it and have it on a stand near the painting.

A closer view of the secretary. I just found the gold Santa piece on top at GdWl a couple of weeks ago. The animated Santa is switched and when its on he moves and a cassette tape plays the entire poem Twas the Night Before Christmas.

I found it at Habitat TS after Christmas a few yrs ago on clearance for $5!!

I special ordered the Santa rug at Home Depot 3 or 4 yrs ago. I made the silk arrangement on the coffee table.

candy,,,that Santa print is BEAUTIFUL ...I haven't seen it at HL here...so precious. Your 'Santa' LR looks so festive & ready for Christmas! That gold plate is a find! I've admired the gold bust Santa's at HL, too. Your collection is fun to see...TFS! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, I don't know if you can read the poem, but I couldn't read it without bringing me to tears.

My Mom, DD's, and the DGK's are coming over tomorrow to bake cookies and we will be decorating the tree in there when they are here.
Flour gets all over the kitchen, we all have our Santa aprons, and Bobby Vinton songs are blaring while we are baking and decorating!! Making memories at Grandmas!! I absolutely love it!

Scott, You have posted photographs of your orchard, and the trees are planted in a tightly-packed hedgerow pattern. I think "W.S.R." needs space to develop the weeping habit -- longer limbs should start to droop/weep at the edge of the canopy in a larger plant. But it certainly doesn't "weep" in the same sense that (for example) a weeping willow does. It is possible that you got material from a budsport limb on my tree, but that does seem less likely. By the way, I'm not certain that "W.S.R." necessarily has any actual connection to "Santa Rosa" (e.g. seedling or budsport). My guess is that "Santa Rosa" is by far the most commonly planted plum in California, so the very-familiar name might have been attached to an unrelated clone. (I'm sure Todd K. would know the actual origin of the cultivar, if anyone cared to inquire.)

I have quite a few different kinds, the species P. tenax, 'Apricot Queen', 'Maori Princess', 'Maori Queen', 'Pink Stripe', 'Yellow Stripe', 'Guardsman', 'Jester', 'Platt's Black', 'Jack Spratt', 'Tom Thumb', 'Bronze Baby', etc, etc. Here in my neighborhood they are really sensitive to the depth at which you plant them, they tend to rot and die if planted even an inch too deep. Also make sure that mulch is no closer than a couple inches away from the base of the plant. I plant them an inch or two higher than the surrounding soil and that seems to really help. Some landscapers planted a dozen or so at the house down the street and put them all too deep, and I knew they would all die and they did! They have the best color with morning sun/afternoon shade. They grow fine in full sun but the foliage color isn't so good--looks bleached. I have the best results if the rootball is quite large (5 gallon sized) before I put them in the ground. If I buy a small one I grow it up to 5 gallon size before it goes in the ground. They are really pretty happy in pots in morning sun/afternoon shade for a long time if you keep giving them a bigger pot whenever the roots fill up the one they are in. Also here they can get mealybugs, I have to check for those.

I drive a school bus with k-2nd graders and even at that age there is always one or two on the bus that wants to tell everyone that Santa isn't real and I tell the offender what I told my own two. My youngest is 10 and he knows that Santa doesn't actually come to our house. He told us a couple of weeks back when he lost a tooth that he knew we were the tooth fairy and Santa. My oldest was about 13 and I finally told her. But everyone on here is wrong when they say their is no such thing as Santa. Santa Claus is very real and no he doesn't come to our house on Christmas Eve, but he is a flesh and blood person.. Go to the mall and stand and watch regular everyday folks pick a name off the Angel tree..THAT person is Santa Claus to someone. Around here we have a Chimes for Charity auction every Nov. The local Jaycees buy toys, clothes, and food for over 900 of our county's underprivileged children. Every time a name is called out...That person is Santa to someone..I have been Santa, and my children were surprised to realize that they too had been Santa, when they donated their money to the Jaycees during that week. The majority of my bus kids get to go to the Jaycees Christmas party, so they understand what I am trying to tell them. There is a Santa..He is inside all of us!! littlebit

Well of course there's those who want to believe and those who want to try to make something out of fun that simply isn't so. If I saw children who were so traumatized that they would distrust their parents over Santa Claus, then those are clearly incompentent parents and should not have children in their custody. Clearly there's a lot more reasons why those children distrust the parents and I dare not even ask what they're doing to those poor kids. We grew up without a lot of the Santa hoopla. But there was "Santa". We all figured it out at an unusually young age. Maybe the hints? Maybe we were smarter or more able to analyze things? Maybe dumb luck? I don't know and I don't care. We were raised with more of the spirit and meaning of the holidays than on the giftwrap. But like mashed potatoes and gravy, Christmas and presents were part of it. My mother died at an early age. The last couple weeks of her life, two cousins, both LPNs stayed with my parents to help out. I knew my mother appreciated this since it enabled her to be at home when she died. I knew I had to do something special that year. Didn't take long to figure out a present for each of them. One enjoyed photography and used instamatics all her life. Easy choice, eh? Yep a camera. The other just got a new car and had just an AM radio. A car stereo. So they were wrapped up and the tag said who it was from. Need I say? Santa. They were both kind of mystified why I was giving them a present and saying Santa until I asked them you DO know who Santa is, don't you? One blurted out YOU! and all of a sudden the other's jaw dropped and a tear came to her eye and said "I know who she is". I've done a lot of things in my life for which I'm proud, but this one rates up there toward the top. I know I brought true JOY in this world, but this I'm sure brought a lot of happiness in another world if there truly is one. So whether you believe in other worlds, Santa, "good" and "bad" vibes, karma or whatever, it's the spirit in the person that matters. So whether you want to traumatize your kids or celebrate with them, here's hoping every good person here has a happy Christmas (yes even if you don't believe in Christmas) and a healthy and prosperous new year. Gledelig Jul! BTW, Joyful, since you Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving about a month before we do in the States, have you already celebrated Christmas??? One other thing I've often wondered... for the people who are so "honest"... do they also tell their kids that Christmas is about retail greed and refuse to accept any presents, cookies and goodies or the Christmas dinner? Just kind of curious. :D

Candy, I couldn't help but post your poem so everyone can enjoy. I've read it before and it's touching. Your room is beautiful! The new picture looks wonderful hanging in there. So many neat things and all so nicely placed.

The poem almost made me cry! LOVE the picture. My dh would feel comfy in your room because don't ever tell him there's no Santa, even though our kids have left the nest! lol

Jeanne, it was a fabulous day, but I am pooped right now.
The cutest thing was that we all have our aprons we wear while we're baking and the girls all have santa aprons. They are red aprons with white fur and a black belt/gold buckle. I had a dish towel and pot holder like that, so I took the pot holder and added buttons and ties and it was a perfect sized apron for Dylan!! She even had a little Santa hat! TOOOOO CUTE!!!!

Oakley, we still believe in Santa around here too! LOL

Oooh...I have seen that picture at HL and have loved it too! I was shopping w/ DMIL in October and we went to her favorite store, Kirkland's and I bought a big round Santa picture, on sale too :). I don't want to hijack your post so I will post my decor in a new post in the next day or so.

What better way to create GMa memories than baking Christmas Cookies with them!! They are very lucky to have you and that you're always thinking of them in special ways..that too will always be with them.
