Sizing of photos to e-mail

My OS is X-P.

All of a sudden, when I e-mail a photo from MY PHOTOS they go out covering about 2/3 of the screen area. This just recently started about a week ago. Prior to that they were going out full screen. I don't think I have changed any settings on the computer or the camera.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Are you sending these by 'inserting' or 'attached'? If you insert the photo into the body of the email you should be able to click on it to produce 'ears' on all 4 corners. Hover over one and drag your photo in or out to your liking.

Much can depend on the file size of a photo too, are these from your own camera and transferred to the computer? If so did yu change the setting on the camera.

Owbist...I read somewhere that making a picture smaller like that (the ears) would make it "look" smaller, but the original size would still be the same as far as sending it and that you should put it in a program such as Irfanview and resize it....is this correct?

if you are using xp there is a very handy little windows power toy that puts a resize photo option in your right click context menu so that any picture you have on your pc you can just right click on it and select one of the smaller sizes offered or choose a custom size then use the smaller version when you attach it to your emails. Go to this link scroll down to the image resizer option and download it to your pc Image Resizer for those with Vista there is no such powertoy but this image resizer does the same job. Prish Image Resizer: PowerToy for Windows XP/Vista Also sometimes you can simply right click and the send to, email and it will let you select a size have you tried that?

Yes. Right click on each picture and select 'save image' on the context menu.Name it and save it to folder on your computer and then use photobucket as usual. You will need to copy the text and paste it in your gardenweb post or type it in yourself.

owbist or iowagirl...I need more help.. Something is not working right. I can set up my e-mail with sound and a picture or two inserted. I send to DD or DS and they do not get music with the picture. I can go back into my e-mail Sent, pull it up and there is music and pic, just the way I want it to go thru. They are not getting the music. They are both on DSL. The other night I set an e-mail up from DD's computer, with picture and music, sent it to our home e-mail address, all I got was pic, no music. After sending I went into her Sent e-mails, pull the e-mail up and I had pic and music. Why is the music not going thru? My e-mails were being sent Outlook Express thru our Verizon address. Thru Verizon we also have MSN Premium, with an MSN address. On MSN Premium I cannot set an e-mail up with pic and music as there is no toolbar with Format or Insert it offers just only an Attachment icon. I can send the music and pic as attachments, which both have to be clicked onto to see and hear. That is not the way I want them to go. I am sure there is something I am missing to do...Been trying for 3 days now. I will appreciate any suggestions and advice. I do remember dial up connections and do not send to them, it has been not that long ago I had dial up too. Thank You!!

very true if you change it then you are degrading the quality of the actual picture, if she wants the high quality to print you need to send full size and she needs to use that image. However those images will be a large size file so will take much longer to go in email and will be large in her inbox, if any of you use dial up it will be slow doing it that way. I use one of the power toys by Microsoft that will allow you to just right click on any picture you have on your pc and select resize from the list and there it gives you choices as to the size, it then creates a new copy of your picture in that size. There is a version for Vista. Image Resizer Powertoy for Vista! Image Resizer Powertoy or you can use this one VSOImage Resizer

Maybee, yes you are absolutely right. Making the image look smaller does nothing to reduce the underlying file size. However I got the impression in this case that Esteban was just looking to make them small either to show without side scrolling or to get more text into a given size.

The link Esteban provided to reduce file sizes is alright unless at some point down the road you wish to print or start reworking the photo. In which case it would be easier to simply reduce the file size in the camera settings before taking photos giving you much more capacity but lesser quality.

My camera takes 3 meg photos and I never reduce my originals. If any require emailing I add a number or letter to the end of the photo then reduce that copy for sending. Photos can be reduced with no loss of quality but increasing the resolution degrades a photo.
