Question re: Samsung FD fridge with dual ice maker model

This question is for new owners of the Samsung FD refrigerator with the dual ice maker (RFG298AARS for stainless model). I'm confused about information the Samsung site provides regarding this model. The specs listed for the 298 are different from information provided in the user manual. Does this model have LED lights in the refrigerator? Does it have the pizza slot in the freezer, and the same refrigerator storage and shelf system as the 297?

Thanks to anyone that can answer these questions. I can't find one on display locally.

Thanks for trying to help...I've been all over the Samsung site and spent a frustrating hour with them on the phone today. Available online literature provides conflicting information about the features of the new model (298). I've missed the Lowe's sale now so I'll just wait until they get another one on the floor to look at in person.

sdionnemoore -- I am interested in your comment about the fridge not being level front to back. My husband and his friend just brought our new RFD237AARS in from the garage and slid it into place. We noticed the same thing, that the front is too high and that makes the freezer area stick out from the wall more than at the top. When we put the level on it, it's seriously out of whack and there doesn't appear to be a way to lower the front. We called Samsung Canada and the support person was basically useless. Did you call Samsung in the US (I assume you are in the US -- I wonder if they had anything more helpful to say than the Canadian support person.) I read another comment on a different site that the owner put his up on shims at the back, which we might try ourselves. The whole setup seems a bit flaky to me. I've never had to level a fridge before so I don't know if they are all like this.

Many thanks to all those who weighed in on our frenzied fridge search! We've narrowed it down to the GE side by side and the CD FD Kitchenaid. Jenn-Air seems to have a model that looks virtually identical, with the exception of 'professional handles'. It's a few hundred dollars more, which may mean that we're destined to remain amateurs! The problem as Kayl said, is the 30'' depth, which is deeper than we would have liked. We're wondering if it could be recessed into the void in the wall behind, or if that would interfere with heat exchange. I talked to customer service, but we all know how productive that was! I understand about the curved doors and handles on this fridge. Because of its placement in my kitchen (near the pantry door, at the end of a line of stuff), its not a problem for me that the fridge sticks out a bit. This could be a problem if the fridge were in the middle of a line of appliances, though. OTOH, any (most?) FD fridge needs clearance on each side, so both main doors can open fully (i.e., 180 degrees) -- particularly for removing interior shelves and bins while cleaning. It depends how the door hinges work -- how far the doors bend back when opened fully. This may be easy to overlook when you see a row of fridges in a store. I've had my Samsung #238 running since about Labor Day, and overall am very pleased with it. Its very quiet (compared to an ancient Amana that had gotten pretty noisy over the past year), and I like the interior LED lighting fine. [I understand a local repair service deals with Samsung stuff, but haven't needed them as yet. Service may be an issue: To be safe, its wise to verify local service availability for this (or any) brand.] If I have any complaint, its been with Samsung's "Energy Saver" feature. A button somehow makes the fridge operate on less energy. I've tried using it twice, but both times after a few days condensation appeared along the center vertical crack between the two main doors. [When I turn Energy Saver off, this condensation disappears.] The first time I turned this feature on the fridge had been running for a few days, and so was presumably fully chilled. The second time, we left town for a few days and the fridge was not opened or used. Maybe I won't be able to use Energy Saver at all, or perhaps it depends on seasonal variation in humidity -- not sure yet, but I can't imagine what else it might be. This is a minor concern for me, but it may be more important to other potential buyers.

Hello all, My wife and I ordered a Maytag Ice2O FD fridge a month or so ago (for a very good price), but were never really thrilled with how the fridge looked - don't like the appearance of the ice/water dispenser. What we did like was the freezer drawers. We loved that the drawers are not wire baskets, and that they both come out when the freezer is opened. After hearing of many problems with the circuit boards on the Ice2O, we diceided to look into other brands. As our other appliances will be mostly GE, we were looking at some GE FD fridges. The PFSS6PKWSS seemed to be the best of the bunch, including the new models with 2 separate freezer drawers. We noticed that on some of the fridges, the deli drawer smacks right into the french doors if the doors are not completely open (which we will not be able to do due to a wall on one side of the fridge). The PFSS6PKWSS has a deli drawer that opens up with the french doors open 90 degrees, but my wife was upset that the shelves did not pull forward like on the Ice2O. We knew that Samsung makes the PFSS6PKWSS for GE, and found the Samsung RF267AARS at a Best Buy to look at. We verified that the interiors are exactly the same, except for clear plastic bins on the french doors (they are white on the GE). After pretty much deciding to stick with the Ice2O because of the pull-out shelves, we happened to tug on one of the Samsung fridge shelves and voila! It slid forward, a few inches farther than the Ice2O shelves even! I think we have decided to go ahead and cancel our Ice2O order, and go with the Samsung RF267AARS. So, you Samsung owners out there, how have the fridges been working, how quiet are they, and do you had any complaints about them? Thanks for any replies.

I haven't seen the 298 in person as Lowe's doesn't currently have any of the Samsung RFG298 in stock - they claim they are selling them faster than they get them. However, I did speak with the Samsung rep on Sat, and she told me that the 298 is the exact same machine as the 297 with the addition of the ice maker in the freezer. (Which is the same ice maker they use in their FDs that don't have the in-door dispensers.)

It is my understanding that the 297 does have LED lighting. henrywerch's post suggests that the 297 does not use LED, but the Samsung website link below advertises that it does:

FWIW, the Samsung rep told me that there are many errors at the Samsung website. So it is entirely possible that in one place they cite LED and contradict it in another.

While I can't confirm that the 297 has LED lighting, according to the rep, if the 297 has it, then so does the 298.

Don't know that this helps, but I hope so.

Thanks, ellencr and jl, yes, I've seen the 297 and it has LED lighting. Since I posted above, Samsung has added a 298 manual to their site and it says the 298 has LED lighting in the refrigerator. I still want to see one in person to verify after all the conflicting information in the Samsung documentation. Still waiting for my local Lowe's to restock after the July 4th sale.

I know I'm replying to a year-old post, but I was just at a Lowes and the 298 has LED lights.

Is Lowes the only place that sells this model? I can't find it anywhere else.
