search provider Not Available?

I can't use address bar. Checked Tools, search provider. One is listed, enabled but also, when I scroll to right to read it, it says, Not Available. If I highlight it, the bottom of page gives me more info, Not available. No clue how to fix this. Any one have an idea? Thanks.

Can you click use current or use default? or click to the right of what's in there then take out with backspace? then put in what you want.

Vista, IE9. Tools Menu in IE, manage add ons, search providers. Labels across top, Name - Google, Status -default, Listing order-1, Search Suggestions-enabled, Top Result-not available.
The not available is read by scrolling to right to read it. If I highlight the line, Google-default-1-enabled-not available.
It also give search results info a bottom left, and also says "not available" I can't search from the address bar. Went to Control Panel, Internet Options, advanced tab, restore Advanced Settings, clicked and nothing is changed after I do. So, how do I get a search provider to work? Have gone to M$ site, added 2 others, same result, not available under Top Result label.

it would help if you could explain what you mean by crash your pc?? What version of windows are you using? Have you tried using another browser instead of IE like firefox? It is always a good idea to have at least 2 browsers on a pc in case IE fails to work. Have you tried to do a simple system restore to a date when it was working properly? If this is xp here are the directions. System Restore

It's Lannuget!I googled her finished kitchen post and another post she had about a backsplash, but can't open them. I remember her kitchen well, I considered her floor tile and even took home a sample. The color didn't work for me, but it was beautiful. Good luck! It is a strange Peperomia with succulent leaves, native to Peru. Not all Peperomia are succulent, but a few are (and look very interesting). I agree with Nicholas on P. dolabriformis.

In searching a topic, why are only the responses on page 1 available?

Wow! I wasn't expecting such wildly varying results. Foodonastump, I get a page of results with what looks like there are pages and pages listed on the bottom, but when I click on ANY of the pages, I always am still on the first page. When you clicked on page 2 or 10 or whatever, did it actually take you to a different page of totally different postings? Bpath, are you typing in the search area on the top of the page? That's crazy! Lars, I'm on an old Acer Chromebook. I bought a new HP Chromebook earlier this year, and the first time when accessing Houzz through Gardenweb, which is what I always use, that's when Google took over and I lost my name when I tried to log in. I was so upset I never used it again. I'll fire it up later and see if I have the same problem, and I'll also get out my ancient Macbook Pro which I no longer use and see what happens with that as well. Salvona, I never looked at how old the posts were I was getting, I'll check that out, too.

Have you tried shutting down the computer and starting again? NOT a restart. Are you sure the computer is not infected.

If the above fails try to repair or re-install Internet Explorer from here.

owbist, thanks for the suggestion. I spent hours messing around M$ site trying to find what I needed to know, and finally gave up. Went back today and uninstalled and reinstalled IE9. Got a bunch of updates,5. that I hadn't had before. Now it works! Yippee! I just wanted to be able to search from the address bar. Now I can. I'm also hoping that all the unexpected closing of IE will stop now. I noticed there were a lot of folks complaining about it at M$ site. Am hoping one or more of those updates adresses the problem. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I don't think I'd have thought of that solution. The search provider issue has been problem for many months. Years for the shutting down unexpectedly. Thanks so much. :))
