you need to head to the malware removal forum at LzD they will guide you through clean up and running of some special scans. you got hit with a misdirect for the dreaded antivirusxp infection. Many many sites even legit sites have been having these misdirections occurring, the best thing you can do is not click anything but just close the browser out, if you click on any part of it that begins the install, it sounds like your WOT saved you. But I would definitely run malwarebytes and superantispyware daily for a few days (update them of course) and do a separate online virus scan also. Online Virus Scan you must run it with IE. are you still seeing anything strange or any warnings from down by the clock? remember do not click on any part of it, if you have to shut down the pc instead do that.

owbist, My sister has Norton Antivirus on her computer and it is suppose to take care of the Trojans. It also has virus protection, spyware protection, an inbound firewall. It has an outgoing and incoming email scanning and instant messenger scanning. She has no problems running Norton, or SuperAntiSpyware. I had her remove Ad-Aware 2007 because I believe it was either corrupt or just stopped working. She should have had 2008 but like I said her husband was seriously ill and then passed away Thanksgiving morning. She was up here when all this took place since he was brought here hoping to get him better care. I am trying to get her back on track with her computer with check disks, defrags and updates that she may have missed while she was here. Hi ravencajun, Thank you for all the information. Since I had her do the Check Disk and Defrag her computer has been faster and there seems to be no other problems. I haven't had her run another scan in SuperAntiSpyware yet, I wanted to make sure that everything was running smoothly again before we try running another scan. I do see where there is a place where she can click for a false positive if that should happen again. But before I would have her do that I will have her to uninstall and reinstall SuperAntiSpyware just to make sure Ad-Aware was not the cause of it showing something in the registry. I will look into Malwarebytes 'Anti-malware after everything else is done. I am very interested and from what you say it sounds like a pretty stable program. I will have to print out the instuctions and play with it myself before I get her involved with something new. Since she is not familiar with this stuff and is afraid to try something new, it is best that I try it out first and then introduce her to it. Thanks again for all your help. Lavasoft use to be the flagship off the fleet, but through recent years it has lagged in development and dependability. Spybot is the old veteran. It is still a great secondary application, but as Ken points out it is not recommended anymore as a first line of detection. Revo is as Ken reports. CCleaner has a application uninstall tool which I believe is nothing but a pointer to the application's uninstaller. Stick with Revo as it begins with the on-board uninstaller and then takes over for a deeper more complete uninstall. DA
