DCS Cooktop? or will Capital make a Cooktop?

Does anyone know if Capital is going to Make a cooktop vs the two range top lines?

Any opinion on why go Performance vs Precision for Range-tops with 6 burners?

Also, any opinions on 5 burner DCS Cooktops and Rangetops?

I'm considering a 5 or 6 burner top, can't decided on 5 or 6 burners, or cooktop or rangetop. Some of the cooktops seem worth it over the rangetops, Single high BTU burner and the rest at 10000 BTU or higher.

The DCS cooktop, seems a bit lame with 4 11,000 BTU burners and a single 17,500 btu burner. One would think they would have done all at at least 15,000 BTU, or matched GE Monogram's version with the higher BTU.

Also their 6 burner Range tops, having 2 burners max out at 12,500 having the rest at 17,500 seems strange to mix and match, seems against the point of a rangetop.

I live in Chicago suburbs, want to go to a 36" burner, have had a gas Kitchen Aid Cooktop with 2 6K and 2 10K BTU burners that I am getting rid of when we redo the kitchen this fall. But I also have smaller kids 1 and 6, and have concerns with a rangetop vs a cooktop...

HELP!

Capital makes rangetops per their website - capital cooking - I was told when i bought my range that they were holding off production until the orders for the ranges were filled. You might want to check with a showroom to see if they have started production yet.

Someone else here reported that they spoke to Capital, the CEO I think, and the range tops are available now. You asked about getting a Performance vs the Precision. Performance is less money, but has lower BTUs (750-15000 BTUs vs 19000 BTU "Power-flo burners") and I believe they put a bit sleeker styling on the Precision....New knob style, etc.

I'm wondering why you think DCS's cooktop is 'lame' compared to Monogram's... I just looked at Monogram's site and it says the 36" cooktop has one at 15K BTU, two at 12K, and two at 10K. Seems like having one at 17.5K and four at 11K would be about the same, except for the higher fire power on the big burner? (For me the Monogram would be even worse, since I have propane and then their output offering is 1@ 15K and 4@ 9.1K)

I'm still shopping for a rangetop myself, so appreciate hearing the thought processes of others when they make their choice.

My current top 3 are BlueStar, Wolf, and Capital Precision.

Have you checked into BlueStar? Their 36" drop-in cooktops give you 2@ 22K BTUs, 2@ 15K, and one 'simmer' burner, which on the ranges is 9 or 10K BTUs.

The burners on the DCS cooktop are like the burners on the DCS range and they're great. I've had a DCS range for over 5 years and love the burners - the simmer is especially good. I think you'll be happy with the DCS.

I've had my DCS AG (manual clean) 30 inch all gas range for about 3 months, and I'm very pleased with the looks and performance. I did a side-by-side "live" comparison with the 30 inch AG Wolfe in a appliance store, and I found that I could stir fry a dish faster with the DCS. The DCS was less expensive than the Wolfe, but I actually preferred it to the Wolfe. (Plus, I wasn't into having a flashy brand - it doesn't quite fit with my neighborhood.) There are just two things to keep in mind: 1. On larger pans (eg 12 inches), the flames go up the sides of the pan so you have to decrease the heat a little. (Some say this defeats the purpose of the high heat.) I don't find it that much of a problem though. I'm glad two of the burners are smaller so that I can still use small pots with a higher heat. By the way, the simmer feature is exceptional - you just flip the knob to simmer (as far as it goes), and the slightest of flames is set. (You don't have to look at the flame and fiddle with the knob to get a low flame.) 2. The broiler heat on the dual fuel range is not as high as the one on the AG. I had read that the duel fuel broiler was disappointing so I went with the AG. (I haven't used the broiler much because I'm kind of scared of it - it gets really hot.) I'd definitely recommend this range. And sometimes it's nice to be a little different and not get what the crowd gets (eg Wolfe). Everyone who has seen my kitchen has commented on the beautiful range. Good luck!

I use a wok on our Blue Star all the time -- both for Asian and Western food. The built-in wok ring is amazingly convenient. And it brings the wok so close to the burner, it really heats up super quickly. It never takes more than 20 seconds for the oil to start smoking. This is with the regular 22kBTU burners. We have had our Blue Star for a couple of years now, and I really love the experience of cooking on it. And it is such a basic design without any complicated electronics, that it isn't particularly prone to breaking, and if it does break anybody can fix it. There were only a tiny number of service issues that I ever needed done. When I first bought it, I didn't like the default burner configuration. My dealer said they could either special order the configuration I wanted, or they could replace the burners in the field. The latter option would not only cost less but also take a lot less time, as they had all the parts in stock. I decided for that, and replacing burners and orificies only took a few minutes. A couple of years later, I called Blue Star to inquire about an unrelated question and mentioned that my oven door was starting to be harder to operate, even after lubricating the hinges. They volunteered that this was a known defect and offered to send a free replacement door. I popped out the old door and installed the new one. Took about 60 seconds of work. More recently, the oven igniter finally burned out. Given how much I bake, I am amazed how long it lasted. It took me about 30min to replace the igniter myself. I am sure I could have called any random technician to do the job, but it didn't seem worth the trouble. Replacement was so easy to do. Finally, a friend of mine told me that their Blue Star range top didn't work reliably; a couple of burners would click and/or light even though they seemed to click. They had the same problem that you have, where they live too far out in the middle of nowhere, so they have trouble scheduling service calls. The next time I visited, I took a look. A few screws needed tightening in order to give a good electrical connection. I was able to fix it for them, but any service technician could have done so too -- it didn't really require knowing anything that was specific to Blue Star.

I checked all the holes and poked them with a needle last night, they seem all clear. I also switched all the burners around, but still did not work. At this point I am thinking either something is wrong with the ingnitor..

I know Rich Kalsi, the CEO of Capital personally. As far as a drop-in cooktop, don't look for that anytime soon. they are working on getting their Precision line established in the market and next spring they will be coming out with electric wall ovens.

As far as Performance vs. Precision, stick with the Precision models. Hotter burners, same burner BTU's on all burners, infrared charbroilers on the rangetops (much better than the old charbroilers on the Performance line).

As far as a 5 burner or 6 burner top, it depends on how much width you have. If you have 30 inches, go with the Capital Precision 5 burner (that center 5th burner is 25,000Btu - HOT!). If you have 36 inches, go with a 6 burner. If you have 48 inches, go with a 6 burner and a grill or griddle. Capital is also pursuing a 48" rangetop with the 30" 5-burner setup and an 18" infrared grill, but that won't be out until late fall/early spring.

Don't waste your money on DCS or GE Monogram. DCS had quality control issues on their 5-burner drop-in cooktops and poor customer service.

Thanks for the info, can the 30,000 BTU Power-Wok be used to just rapid boil a stock pot?

If so the GRT364W looks great, 4 high 19,000 burners and the 5th 30K BTU, plus the extra space all around.

(I like the idea of 6 burners, but I know, I'll probably use the 4 corners of the two center ones. Maybe 6 once or twice a year.)

I live in Orange County, CA and very interested in buying Capital Precision 36" range. I checked online for a local dealer and can't find one. If I order it through US-Appliance or Eurostove, will they have names of service people to call in case something goes wrong?

DCS Cooktop? or will Capital make a Cooktop?
