Our Christmas Decor 2011

I'm busy enjoying all that the holiday has to offer so I won't post pictures here. I have put up a post on my blog. I hope you stop by to visit. I will be posting our Christmas table later in the week.

I don't where to start, I'm crazy about it all! But especially have to comment on that fantastic Kirklands framed Santa! LOVE! (I absolutely have to go to Kirklands next year and see what Christmas they have...seeing this painting, and then buying the big Santa Nutcracker on Horse from eBay and the just-purchased Santa on Rocking Horse from shopgoodwill, ALL Kirklands!)

Then there's your mantel with all the neat shelves...oh boy is that right up my alley! What a great place to decorate! Christmas at your house looks, and sounds, just the way it supposed to be! (got room for an extra guest?)

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delayed response--been very busy with work. I do agree with needing to raise the tree up. I have a large box that should work and will see if I can procure some faux snow. I think I also have some old bricks lying around. HMMMMMM. I actually like red and white lights, as well as blue and white--but my neighbor has blue and white, so I think I'll stick with red and white for a candy cane look. I agree that the lights on the japanese maples aren't my favorite, and that they detract from my christmas tree indoors. I guess I could put them on the bushes to the left of the porch? (There are some large overgrown evergreen bushes to the left, though I'm not sure they show up well in the pictures...) I AM having fun--love decorating my new home for the holidays! Such a fun time! I still have work to do indoors--we're having a party in a week and I have a lot to do before then.

I think the most interesting and most inviting rooms are ones that people have furnished with the things they love. Frankly, I've never understood the concept of decorating simply to decorate, nor do I "get" what I often see on design shows -- the decorator finishing a room or house by going shopping for "accessories," none of which seem in any way personally linked to the houses' owners. Needless to say, I don't care for "themes" or "motifs" either. Our kitchen needs painting, but we have things in it anyway, and most of them will probably remain regardless of the wall color (assuming we can ever pick a color, that is): four oil paintings, one a nude, and two posters from a local town's annual festival; one pencil drawing; two watercolors; two framed original Mercer tiles; a metal folk art vaguely 19th century-style mermaid; an oriental carpet; a canvas floor cloth in front of the sink; two pieces of raku; one pottery pitcher; a glass-fronted cabinet filled with glasses, china bits, and glass, including some 1950s or 1960s iced tea glasses, some lead crystal wine glasses from the 1950s, some totally frou-frou-looking coffee cups, an art glass Object Dart and some Murano swivel sticks...also an 18th century wine glass and some antique saki cups. None of this was planned, nor were we trying for a look or theme. Maybe it doesn't even work! We just thought each item looked good in its spot, so that's where we placed it. Nannajoe, I think you should do what some other posters here have advised, and that is to finish your kitchen with your things, or things you see during shopping expeditions that you love. Don't worry about what marketers want you to buy this year (so that you can change it next year when this year's "in" thing is "out"). If you like what they're trying to sell you, that's wonderful. But if it's not you, then go your own way!

This is not my tree nor my idea, but I just happened upon it and want to share it. I am definitely going to start buying those old toppers I see...I have a topper on my tree that I love so couldn't imagine what to do with more - I'm not crazy about the pastel, but more vibrant colors or silver or gold would suit me.... Your cookie jar collection may become addictive! (watch out!) I've stayed away from that (so far)....tee hee!

what a delightful tour of your home - thanks for inviting us :) Love your village at the entrance to greet your guests. The cookie jars could present a problem tho if you continue to fall in love with them - I could help you display them ..hint..hint - everything else is so festive - TFS .....

Your home looks very festive, warm and cozy. I like cookie jars too, but have refrained for display/storage reasons! So fun that you change out your dishes on display for the seasons, nice way to get to enjoy your collection of dishes and decorate for the season! Luvs
