? about Windows Live OneCare

I just bought a new computer that uses IE7. I installed the free AVG. Now I am getting a message that Windows Live OneCare has found a conflicting program (AVG) and unless I remove it, my computer is at high risk.

HUH?

What gives?

Windows Live One Care has it's own antivirus tools.
I think they recommend only one antivirus for your computer.
Whatever error number you received go to -

cboy, I appreciate the help you're providing in this forum. I'm just a lurker who is here to learn and who posts occasionally when it's a problem I've experienced. I would like to make a friendly suggestion which I hope you don't take as being critical. It certainly isn't intended that way. When you post a long URL there are two ways to post it so that future readers of the thread do not have to scroll horizontally back and forth to read the messages in the thread. One is to paste the URL in the optional URL box under your post and put a name for it in the other box. The other is to use a little html which takes very little time and saves readers a lot of scrolling. Here it is: Just type this <a href="put URL here"> type name of URL here<a/>. For instance if I do this with your long URL in the post above it looks like this:

cboy, I use Firefox by choice and had to scroll. However when I used IE7 or Opera it splits the long address so scrolling is not necessary. Just quirks with different browsers I suppose. Web pages will render differently with many browsers making creating a perfect web page an almost impossible task.

I'm one of the oldest ones in my family tree, now ... ... my uncles are pretty well all dead. If it's the tax people to whom you refer, including the income tax ones, I wasn't thinkiing of them. I was thinking of the promoters, legit and less so, who use all kinds of methods of shifting that money from your wallet into theirs. I guess I don't understand the scrolling part. I use resolution 800 x 600 which has a large page and I don't have to scroll from left to right. Their is one Forum that I go to were I have to scroll back and forth to read. It is iratating. Why do you have to scroll back and forth on Garden Web?

The reason I paste the actual URL is because people can see the information in it. Location and were it goes.

Yes I do on this post and another where you recently posted a long URL. My resolution is set at 1280 x 1024, but I do use a larger font. To read this post without scrolling I have to make the font so small it's hard for me to read. I admit I haven't gotten new glasses for 3 years now and that might solve the problem. What size is the default font of your browser?

I guess my next question is, can I turn off Windows Live OneCare?

If that is not possible, how does the WLOC update its anti-virus definitions and how often?

Windows live one care updates here several times daily. Think when an update is available its told something like, hey you over there, we got something for ya.

Think it checks for updates when the computer is idle, at each boot and then again on a scheduled time which is the same time it checks for microsofts critical updates and normal monthly windows updates.

Medium.
Have you tried 800 x 600? Their is a way in handicap options to make your text extra large. I don't know if this applys to websites.

buzzard, I have One Care on my older machine and you can open the program and shut it off. I've had to do it few times. I happen to think this is a really neat program. I don't know how well it protects, but it has so many features and is so easy to use. It's really 'brainless.' You don't even know its there. It updates automatically, runs tune-ups and even backs up the files without even knowing. I think it's great.

I took Norton AV off the machine and put One Care on. It's easy to shut off. I forget what you click, but I think it's under Tools.
