? about Windows Live OneCare

I just bought a new computer that uses IE7. I installed the free AVG. Now I am getting a message that Windows Live OneCare has found a conflicting program (AVG) and unless I remove it, my computer is at high risk.

HUH?

What gives?

Windows Live One Care has it's own antivirus tools.
I think they recommend only one antivirus for your computer.
Whatever error number you received go to -

cboy, I appreciate the help you're providing in this forum. I'm just a lurker who is here to learn and who posts occasionally when it's a problem I've experienced. I would like to make a friendly suggestion which I hope you don't take as being critical. It certainly isn't intended that way. When you post a long URL there are two ways to post it so that future readers of the thread do not have to scroll horizontally back and forth to read the messages in the thread. One is to paste the URL in the optional URL box under your post and put a name for it in the other box. The other is to use a little html which takes very little time and saves readers a lot of scrolling. Here it is: Just type this <a href="put URL here"> type name of URL here<a/>. For instance if I do this with your long URL in the post above it looks like this:

cboy, I use Firefox by choice and had to scroll. However when I used IE7 or Opera it splits the long address so scrolling is not necessary. Just quirks with different browsers I suppose. Web pages will render differently with many browsers making creating a perfect web page an almost impossible task.

@calidesign - F in that drawing is the transom window and possibly where the TV would be. The other spot would be in the top left hand corner - undecided for now. The reason we went with a transom and not tall windows on this wall, is that it faces our driveway and the neighbor's house will be within 40' of the side of the house. We don't particularly want to look out at their house/driveway. As for the french doors, we have access to our deck to the right of the kitchen wall. That's where our rear porch is and basement stairs. Also, the walkway from driveway to back yard is "above" (in the drawing) the back window D and the garage just beyond that. Extremely crude depiction.

I suggest as you have to work with the furniture you have - look in the Houzz gallery and search Grey sofas or grey living rooms and browse through the design ideas to see what you like against the grey (sofa looks blue grey on my monitor) it could be anything from mid century yellows/greens to pink or purple or rich blues - see what takes your fancy. Then if you cant paint the walls ....accessorize with that color scheme - paintings, cushions, throws, rugs, lampshades etc.

I guess I don't understand the scrolling part. I use resolution 800 x 600 which has a large page and I don't have to scroll from left to right. Their is one Forum that I go to were I have to scroll back and forth to read. It is iratating. Why do you have to scroll back and forth on Garden Web?

The reason I paste the actual URL is because people can see the information in it. Location and were it goes.

Yes I do on this post and another where you recently posted a long URL. My resolution is set at 1280 x 1024, but I do use a larger font. To read this post without scrolling I have to make the font so small it's hard for me to read. I admit I haven't gotten new glasses for 3 years now and that might solve the problem. What size is the default font of your browser?

I guess my next question is, can I turn off Windows Live OneCare?

If that is not possible, how does the WLOC update its anti-virus definitions and how often?

Windows live one care updates here several times daily. Think when an update is available its told something like, hey you over there, we got something for ya.

Think it checks for updates when the computer is idle, at each boot and then again on a scheduled time which is the same time it checks for microsofts critical updates and normal monthly windows updates.

Bob 414 I usually come to this Forum using AOL. They don't give a choice that I know of. Internet Explorer is set on
Medium.
Have you tried 800 x 600? Their is a way in handicap options to make your text extra large. I don't know if this applys to websites.

buzzard, I have One Care on my older machine and you can open the program and shut it off. I've had to do it few times. I happen to think this is a really neat program. I don't know how well it protects, but it has so many features and is so easy to use. It's really 'brainless.' You don't even know its there. It updates automatically, runs tune-ups and even backs up the files without even knowing. I think it's great.

I took Norton AV off the machine and put One Care on. It's easy to shut off. I forget what you click, but I think it's under Tools.
